Better player than Hardy for me, controls the forwards far better in tight games. Munster being one example.

Good for him to get some games. Wayne is on record as saying how happy the management were in the progress of Hardy &Declan. Once Hardy learns to control matters a little better in monsoon conditions he is going to push Cawdor hard. If Jonny Evans can put this nightmare injury season behind him then if Declan really has made progress then I see SHC moving on permanently.

One of the scrum halves ( at least) wasn't going to be renewed.
Bottom line is you really can't afford to have a 3rd or 4th choice NWQ player...so I suspect we hope he makes a mark at Harlequins. |

Correct every NWQ player must be first 23 standard. Hardy's inspired form has sunk SHC.

At the start of the season I thought SHC would be our no1 scrum half before long. Sadly, it's not worked out for whatever reason. But I still think it's odd that we're offloading a scrum half at this stage when we're going to need all the players on the staff. The obvious assumption is that the wage bill has to be reduced.

If he can be recalled from Quins in case of injury, it's a good arrangement all round - Sam gets a chance of top level game time & to make a case for a permanent contract, we save some wages & solve a squad problem, Quins get an international quality emergency 9 for their Challenge Cup quarters &run-in. Win-Win-Win.

let's be honest he isn't good enough or rather he isn't playing well enough at the moment to get on the bench let alone start
he must be on over £100k a year and we can't sustain 4th choice players on that wage let alone taking up an nwq slot I did say at the start of the season hardy would jump above him in the pecking order west wales produces loads of good 9's most of the imports we have brought in to that position have flopped, a lesson we should learn

I was pleased when we announced we’d signed SHC as he’s a very talented attacking 9 who I thought would fit in well here. His first appearance when he won us the match against Bristol in pre-season was very promising too.
It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out. The depleted and unfamiliar set of forwards we’ve been forced to field for most of this season probably hasn’t helped him settle in. Perhaps things would’ve been different if he’d joined at the start of last season instead. He hasn’t really put a foot wrong in the cameos he’s made over the last few months, but it’s probably for the best if he moves on. He’s expensive for where he is in the pecking order, and could get a lot more rugby at a host of other top flight clubs. |
