Well done Fscarlet - 21 forwards & 15 backs - interesting.

Cheers yeah, I think the test matches may well see a 6:2 split on the bench due to the sheer physical battle they will be!!

Well Gats will have his plan on how to beat them. I can't see the Boks changing their MO - Pieter Steph-Du Toit was a key guy for them playing at 6 in the World Cup and with a 6/2 split you really have to have versatility at 22/23 or in the original 9-15 to cover 9 & 10. Gats could achieve this with Farrell playing at 12 so not having an out and out 10 on the bench. The other must have is to cover your goalkicker.

He certainly will GPR, if anyone knows how to do it, it's him.

Couple of media outlets suggesting Quins 10 Marcus Smith has been contacted by Gatland.

Good squad but I’d take Navidi over Watson. Gatland knows Navidi can cope with South Africa’s physicality whole Watson flatters to deceive IMO
I still wake up late at night and think of what might have been when tim stimpson hit that jammy penalty1

For me I had a hard time choosing between who I want to see and who I think Gatland will take.

Wyn Jones, Cian Healy, Mako, Furlong, Sinkler, Porter

Ken Owens, LCD, Jamie George

AWJ (c), Ryan, Itoje, Bernie, Henderson

Faletau, Tips, Watson, Curry, Underhill, Stander, Ritchie

G Davies, Ali Price, Murray

Russell, Biggar, Farrell

Henshaw, Ringrose, JD2, Slade

Hogg, Watson, LRZ, Williams, Duhan VDM

If picked on form a few of these payers dont make this squad. Sexton for me doesnt make it also.

With Townsend and Tandy on the coaching staff you'd think we would see them campaigning for a few more scotts. Replace JD2 or Slade with Chris Harris and id be fine

Thanks Owen - another choice featuring 21 forwards with 7 back rowers. What is pretty clear is that I don't envy Gatland trying to narrow the field down to 36.

I agree with what you're saying but I think Watson will be given the nod.

Watson is very deceptively powerful. For sure he is smaller than Curry & Tipuric but he is an effective carrier. What may count against both him and Underhill is the fact that he really can only play 7. Curry & Navidi's power see them play all 3 positions & Tipuric's all round rugby brain & athleticism see him play all 3. Also in Tipuric's favour is that he is a good lineout option. Some superb players are going to miss out for sure.

This is my best guess. If I was picking it myself I’d change a few players but this is what I suspect Gatland will go for:

LH:  Wyn Jones, Mako Vunipola, Rory Sutherland

H: Ken Owens, LCD, Jamie George

TH: Francis, Sinckler, Furlong

SR: AWJ (c), Itoje, James Ryan, Beirne, Johnny Gray

BR: Faletau, Vunipola, Navidi, Hamish Watson, Courtney Lawes, Curry, Jamie Ritchie

SH: Connor Murray, Dan Robson, Tomos Williams

FH: Finn Russell, Dan Biggar, Owen Farrell

C: Henshaw, Jonathan Davies, Tuilagi,

BT: Liam Williams, Hogg, LRZ, Josh Adams, Jonny May, Anthony Watson

Another 21/15 split. Only 3 centres considering mid week games etc is very brave considering the injury records of Foxy & Tuiiagi. Of course Farrell can play 12 and replacements will be easier to get than Aus/NZ.

The Rugby Union Quins Weekly 😅

Surely Rhys Priestland has more chance than Marcus Smith with his 1 ‘cap’ vs the BaBaas...

Yes thats a telling stat. What is also a bit crazy when I try to justify my selection is that there are 5 Scarlets in the 36 - in no way does that stack up with our performances. (6 if you count Beirne!!!!!!!)

I am dumbfounded by the selection of Tuilagi he hasn’t played any rugby for ages and is even less ready for SA than foxy. I also think if there were viable alternatives then Farrell would be struggling to go.
Having given the stat of the last time the lions went on tour without a Leicester player was 1968 when was the last time we didn’t supply a player.

She asks why i still can't answer. I guess its in the blood.
