A good common sense ( as you would expect) explanation of all that is wrong with this 12's idea from Rob Baxter. As he points out players are contracted to their clubs so will be asking for leave of absence to join this lucrative tournament so when they are refused it will create tension between players and their employees.

I'm not in favour - top players get bashed about quite enough as it is.

Regardless of the positives and the negatives, I just can't see where this tournament could possibly fit in with the current rugby calendar.

Who pays when a player gets injured and cant return to their proper club? The fanchise? Or the tournament? What hsppens when a player burns out half way through the full season? The tournament wont care because they will havevhad their pound of flesh. This idea is not only shocking but irresponsible by those who have suggested it

similar to the 100 in cricket , what the heck was all that about?
20/20 was short enough , by all means bring in some razzmatazz,a few djs and disco balls, a few inflatable castles and hot tubs fine , but the 100? the welsh fire ? do me a favor

In this 'proposal'we see more evidence of the sport "chasing the money and not the ball",as Jeff Probyn wrote in TRP on Sunday.Gimmicky nonsense and a quick buck for a few pan-handlers:nothing more.

I find that I enjoy rugby league more now as it’s played in nice weather, Is fast paced physical and no long tedious referee referrals .

£250 million is coming from somewhere? I assume tv|?
sounds like yet more profiteering to me....By all means have a chat about possibly reducing playing numbers in union but this is not the way to do it..This will ruin an already messed up rugby schedule

Mr Moffat was in the news at the weekend saying that the Unions will lose control over their clubs and thus their players because of the input and influence of companies like CVC.
Is this the Unions fighting back?

Quite interesting.
Key question is - what problem is it solving? Perhaps there isn’t enough space on the pitch in rugby Union XVs? So best to take players off the park to free up space. Would it be normal scrums, lineouts, subs etc? If there’s not going to be a contest at scrums and lineouts, just call it rugby league. Is it, like the Hundred, also being used as a way to dissolve the counties? So after 5-10 years the rugby authorities can properly start afresh without the baggage of old clubs and 50%+ ownership of the franchises in the hands of the RFU etc The Hundred did outline what problems it was trying to solve; - Need to create a format short enough for Free-to-air broadcasters - Huge subset of crickets fan base (Asian) don’t think existing T20 tourno is family friendly as it’s too laddy/drunk - Younger generation associates with cities more than counties - so create city franchises Even Rugby X outlined what problem it was trying to solve - create a format to encourage kids to play in schools with smaller playgrounds. This Rugby XII seems to be “put the players that people non-rugby fans might have actually heard of on the pitch together”

If rugby wasn't littered with issues around player welfare and congested fixture lists I could see the appeal of this half way house between 15's and 7's, but as it stands it's effectively an extra 3 or 4 games for the top players with no room in the calendar to play the games.
It would potentially line a few pockets of those backing it, to the detriment of the clubs supplying the players.
