Llanelli's front row were hammered and most of Aberavon's early points came from the inability to hold Aberavon's scrum. Particularly disappointing was Dylan Evans, a Scarlets player last year, and who started. By the end Aberavon were totally on top, and after many substitutions, even their backs were dominant.

RFC is unashamedly a development team for the region and we usually get outmuscled up front as the more traditional clubs have a selection of older stronger and more experienced heads in the pack . We do well for 50 minutes and then go downhill as we tire.

I wish the region was more prepared to help with more senior players loaned out so we could at least hold a respectable mid table position and boost home fan attendance in particular. However it looks like ‘same of‘ as per pre lockdown. However you find that region feeder clubs may get fed better than the club the region actually owns . It’s frustrating - very.

A few senior guys were playing around the region yesterday…Joe Roberts, Angus O’ Brian, Jac Price, Daf Hughes..it’s a balancing act between game time and disruption to the team by players coming in and out…and of course injury risk.

Joe Roberts played well as did Archie Hughes, both scoring and making good use of very limited possession.

We just need a bit more week in and week out semi pro brawn and grunt to round us off as our backs are always dangerous. Its plainly not going to happen though once again. The RFC will remain the most poorly supported club in the league as Supporters want wins for their admission. Region won’t fund that sadly.

Drovers and Quins had far stronger match day squads out yesterday from what I saw.

It’s frustrating for everyone concerned with the RFC I imagine. Surely Scarlets could have provided a couple of extra bodies yesterday for the RFC - not just to boost the RFC but also to give the players some game time before next weekend?
Think, think, think - it's a thinking man's game!! - The Great Carwyn James.

Looking at both squads practising before the kick-off the Llanelli forwards looked fitter and more athletic, Indeed, of the two tight-heads in the Aberavon squad the starting 3 was 5ft9 (according to the programme) and 119kg while the substitute was 6ft 3, 140 kg, with most of that distributed around his stomach. However they weren't taking part in a Mr Universe competition, and with the aid of the 5 behind them, very quickly disrupted and destroyed our scrum. Once we had allowed them to do this they applied their superiority relentlessly, and won innumerable penalties, a penalty try and we came nowhere near them. I would have thought that with former Scarlet Dylan Evans in the front row and Phil John a coach then we should have been able to predict this and if not at least had some ideas to limit the damage.

Scarlets should be helping  Llanelli RFC team out with players
because when it comes to British Irish league time they will want players from the 3 feeder clubs

British Irish league. That’s not gonna happen anytime soon. If players got injured people would soon kick off asking why they were playing for feeder clubs.

From the starting 15 I THINK, its the most Llanelli have had in terms of scarlets players for some time.
I believe Ioan Hughes and Ryan Davies the only two backs that are not in the academy whilst 3 or 4 of the starting pack also from the academy as well as OConnor on bench from the academy.

Im not sure who scarlets will want to give Llanelli RFC who can lend some experience in the pack. Dylan Evans is there as an old head, but ideally someone in the mould of Peter Edwards would be welcomed to help the development of the young props as well as hooker Morgan McCrae. At lock, maybe Rawlins has been linked to Llanelli RFC and back row, maybe Carwyn Tuipolotu has been linked with Llanelli RFC. not really sure who else we can give them to be honest. Dwayne spoke that about 75% have been allocated a club and will be playing through the season when not on scarlet duty. the remaining squad members will probably be on regional duty. so lets see what happens over the course of the season. But as for the line up, the line up was pretty much filled with academy lads.

That’s the very point though- Academy LADS who get decimated by the opposition pack after 45 minutes usually and compounded by a weak big lump bench. It’s why Supporters don’t come to watch the RFC . Our attendance is pitiful compared to other proper Premiership clubs. It’s a huge shame and embarrassment. We are Llanelli RFC! The Scarlets need to support the RFC properly so we have the small core of Men in the pack each week and so we can win our games and reflect well on the town but it won’t happen. We should be top three each season not bottom three and still be a big development club. It’s not fair on the paying fans or players or coaches - just my opinion of course.
