We have got a short turnaround this week. I hope they have a big defensive session tomorrow when they train.

Different point entirely though. We could say we were missing Sanjay, Halfpenny, Patchell, Macleod and Lousi using that narrative. Also of the list of Munster players above only 2 were involved last week. The issue that I'm failing to highlight is that becuase Munster changed 11 of the 23 from last week, the assumption was that it was a weaker outfit. I'm not sure that's right really. This week they brought in to the starting 15 Chris Cloete, last season's Pro 14 top turnover winner at 7, Matt Gallagher, who had a good career with Saracens before being signed up by Munster, Dan Goggin who's been an ever present in the 23 for the last few seasons, as has Neil Cronin at SH ( just back after an ACL). They basically switched the starting from row to the bench from last week and vice versa. In no way does this justify the defeat and our performance however. Our ball was usually slow and the Munster backs were up, at pace, amongst our backs as they received the ball, knocking them over and continually threatening interceptions or forcing us into panic passing/off-loading. This happened regularly, yet no-one told the backs to lie deeper or chip the ball over the on-rushing Munster players into the space that must lie behind them if they are up so quickly. Our only try came from a kick into space by Costellow and a fine chase by McNicholl. But still nothing clicked in the minds of our "strategists". Whatever the pre-match game-plan was, by the 30 minute mark, it was apparent that it wasn't working. But despite having a host of experienced players on the field no attempt was made to counter the rush defence, and Munster didn't need to change their game plan which had been expertly formulated to take advantage of our weaknesses.

Hard not to agree with dai , we really need to work out how to deal with the blitz defence better than we do at present

Didn’t see much debate with the referee and Captain Foxy eg pointing out that they were often offside on the blitz defence! At the very least get the referee looking at it . He needs to be more chirpy and streetwise.

Had Steff Evs knee not been in touch we had a penalty coming, the Munster skipper made sure the ref knew about Ken’s knock on whilst the TMO checked the grounding. Scrum to them. Small thing, big outcome. Multiple pens conceded in the Munster 22…not much in the way of a yellow considered, or even a warning…that was an opportunity. It’s not Foxy per se, it’s just that an outside back doesn’t have a great vantage point for a lot that goes on, |

Fair point Wil, however in Edinburgh, Foxy aske Brace to check whether their SH had got back onside, but he ignored Foxy's point. Brace has since apologised to the Scarlets for making a complete mess of the decision on their 3rd try. Perhaps there needs to be a directive that in cases such as we've mentioned, the TMO/ref must look into what the skipper points out. A written apology a week later does the game a disservice.

Of course this is correct and there was way too much hubris pre-game. However, that was a bit more than a bump in the road. It was a huge step backwards after a couple of promising if not excellent games. It's almost inconceivable that Munster, Leinster, Ulster or Connacht would ever fold like we did on Sunday. It's not new, we've been here many times before and in fairness so have Cardiff and Ospreys. This phenomenon of seemingly "phoning in" a game does seem to be a Welsh malaise. Defence was shoddy, decision making poor at times. Aggression was missing and poor old Sam had probably his worst game for us so far. It's very perturbing. |

We're still still here, but I wish we were in an Anglo-Welsh
