By PETER

JACKSON

THE Scarlets are final ising plans to stage a renewal of their most revered fixture, against. the All Blacks later this year exactly half a century after beating them at Stradey Park.

The match is scheduled. for Saturday, October 30, the day before the golden anniversary of the club's famous 9-3 win over New Zealand in 1972 when legend has it that fans drank every pub in Llanelli dry

Sean Fitzpatrick. captain when the All Blacks last appeared in the town in the late 90s, has played a major role along side Scarlets' chairman Simon Muderack in secur ing a match represents a major coup for the West Wales club.

The Rugby Paper under stands that NZRFU chief executive Mark Robinson. has approved the fixture. It turns the clock back over a quarter of a century to when the All Blacks last played a British club, at Llanelli in 1997 when Christian Cullen scored four of the tourists' 13 tries in an 81-3 win.

Fitzpatrick joined the board 18 months ago in the London-based role of global ambassador. The scheduling of the match will give the treble World Cup-winners

This would be an enormous boost. We should be able to attract record season ticket sales by offering packages including this fixture, and by giving standard season ticket holders first call on a ticket to this match before they go on general sale.

Nice day out if true.

Unclear at this stage whether the game is on the Saturday or the Sunday, as Jackson seems to have got his dates wrong regarding the 30th.

Also, if this goes ahead, I really hope Wales haven’t got a fixture lined up for that weekend as the out of window 4th Autumn international, and if they don’t, I really hope they release the Wales boys from camp. Would be such a shame for such an occasion to be played without some of our bigger names

TBH I’d be amazed if the game was played on the Sunday - surely just a case of mixing up the dates. Let’s hope that the Wales players are available -  it would be an absolute travesty if they weren’t. It would surely be possible to just have the players from the other three regions in Wales camp for the week leading up to the game, with Scarlets players joining later. Hopefully with Pivac being an ex-Scarlet coach he’ll understand how much this game will mean for the players and fans, and will show a bit of understanding.

This is brilliant.
We need:
1. A sell out crowd of 15,000 = £300k in ticket revenues.
2. All our best players (what a great warm up for the AIs)
3. A Haka at PYS!!!

If wales are playing we won’t have our test players who are in the 23 but we should get those who aren’t. Hopefully we can be at full strength

Between matchday revenue, merchandise, tv rights, you could be talking upwards of £750k for one afternoon. No brainer

What an occasion this would be! Llanelli RFC(Scarlets) the last senior Welsh rugby union  team to beat the All Black's. 50 years ago on the 31st October 1972. That is unreal.

Because it would be a great occasion and allow us to earn a lot of money…

It was 81-3 last time. I was a kid on the packed North Terrace and loved the experience, despite watching my heroes get pummelled by opposition who were several levels better. It felt a privilege to watch the likes of Cullen, Jeff Wilson, Frank Bunce etc strut their stuff.

The club was at a low ebb at that time in 1997. A couple of years later we were one of the very best clubs in Europe.
