I'm a big fan of Rioja or indeed Tempranillo generally.

A good cheese needs a good red & vice versa. Keep an eye out for the Australian Red 19 Crimes - I was impressed.

Sporting Wines have done wonders for the PyS wine list and sales have been excellent.
Am enjoying a Premium Malbec from L10 - Messi’s Foundation’s vineyard. There’s a sale on with the three Messi wines (2 Malbec and a white) all available at a good discount. Well worth snapping up at a discount and fair enough at the normal price. If you want to take advantage of the Sporting Wines Messi Sale, it runs out very soon. They other interesting wines. The Jacky Lorenzetti Medoc wines are very nice indeed.

For reasons best known to themselves, Majestic have invited me to a wine tasting in their Cardiff Bay store on 17/5 between 1800 and 2000.
If you want to go, it might help to book. They can be contacted on 029 2022 8806 and/or cdb@majestic.co.uk Cheers

Back from a trip abroad and enjoying a 20 year old Listrac, a small area north of Bordeaux, iirc. Bought en vrac in a 5L, maybe 12L container and bottled ourselves. The price was about €2.50 a litre iirc.
Tastes very nice indeed and is light while flavoursome. It’s only 12% strength and I find myself wishing more red wine was at that kind of level. Everything seems to be 14%……. A quick check to test my impression was the Majestic website. Only 5% of their reds are 12.5% or less. Just under 60% are 14%. I thought it’d be higher. That something so cheap as the Listrac can last as long as it has and still taste good is very reassuring as I’ve more old bottles of similar age lurking in the garage.

Oh for the days of buying wine by the 10 litre container. I remember my wife & I driving back from a farmhouse holiday in Tuscany with our Navara truck full to the brim of Tuscan red which cost us 2 Euros a litre - happy days!!!!

Thought you might be a Prosecco man myself 😉🍾 🥂 Why is that stuff so popular and so expensive I ask myself for fizzy stuff . Women certainly love it. 🤔

Prosecco the best marketing success for many a year. Cava, for me, is a far superior product but not marketed as well. Cava is actually made using the same method of double fermentation that real champagne uses. Most prosecco is made by pumping gas into white wine = heartburn in a glass.
