Oh the power of positive thinking. A team which had won 1 from 17 under Joe Root's captaincy & coached by Silverwood have just won 4 from 4 under the new guidance of Ben Stokes & Brendan Macallum. They have successfully chased 4 totals in excess of 250 for victory making today's chase of 378 look like a stroll in the local park. Batting from Root & Bairstow approaching 5 an over is something we have never seen in test cricket before. Long may it continue.

Yeah cannot be overstated how incredible the last 4 games have been.

I was at Lords for day 2 when New Zealand got back into it and thought ‘oh dear’ same old. That win was remarkable but the next 3 wins have been even more incredible.

I think this one against India is the most incredible of the lot. The ease with which Bairstow and Root just knocked up a partnership of 250 on the 4th/5th day against a very good bowling attack is quite astonishing.

Bazball indeed

Anderson  broad root well in the mix for an englabd all time team stokes possibly bairstow on fire, however before we go ott let’s see how they do overseas under this ciach/skipper. Still huge issues in top 3 and lack of quality in spin bowling for me

Shame the Welsh element of The ENGLAND and Wales Cricket Board is so abysmal and has been for many years. It’s truly like following England!

Not many welsh players lately, not even many in glamorgan. Binned the colts and welsh cricket has faded badly

Sad.  I would rather they just dropped Wales in the Board rather than see us humiliated as being an irrelevance as a nation.

Yes its been great to watch but lets not get too carried away. Our top 3 are still very vulnerable to lateral movement, I agree RR we need a quality spinner & a reliable quick bowler (90MPH+) who doesn't keep breaking down like Archer & Wood.

The acid test for this new regime will come on the next winter tour & of course the Ashes series next summer. However the attacking philosophy introduced is a breath of fresh air and should make a drawn game a collector's item.

Its bizarre to think but the emergence of 20/20 and growth of one day cricket has inadvertantly saved test cricket....How? Well firstly it kept the big crowds coming to cricket with sell out one dayers and in time the skills developed in the shorter game have been transferred to the longer game. The skills and the positive attacking instincts... You couldnt have dreamt of seeing a run chase like that in the 70s 80s 90s ..Even beefy wasnt reverse sweeping sixes over mid off lol Sometimes it goes too far but thats all down to judging each ball on merit as Root seems to do so well... The 2005 ashes was epic and there have been umpteen other classics since including the epic world cup final. The innovations with third umpires and stump cams and so on have added massively to the spectacle too...Cricket is rightly back to its lofty spot as the best game in the world imo....and the second most popular

What can rugby learn? Simplify the game, create more space for skill and speed, make it more appealing to the masses and encourage more kids of all shapes and sizes...As Benny rightly mentioned in his book, the game was hurtling towards crash bang wallop for too long and he celebrated the rise of the little men such as the french v all blacks 99 classic...Lets face it kids who get inspired want to be benny and shane not derwyn jones lol

Isn’t that also the role of 7 a side perhaps? The WRU don’t invest in this wing of rugby and it’s a means of getting young men into rugby with the hope some could migrate on to 15 a side?

Definitely, great point. Sevens is hugely popular and the ideal vehicle to develop skills etc The all blacks as always uttilise this far more than any other major nation...It used to be more popular in the 80s and 90s the snelling sevens cwmtawe sevens and so on used to be packed with all the main test team welsh internationals....The genius thats come through sevens includes Likes of serevi , campo, cheslin colby, the barrett brothers, the savea brothers, darcy graham, cubby boi, chris cullen, rocokoko , muiliania , habana etc We definitely under utilise the sevens game..You can tell these players are more comfortable in space than others...This is also where the mighty Lomu was burst through and he was handy lol

And the 70’s . Snelling 7’s / Middlesex 7’s/Melrose 7’s in Scotland etc . It was popular with international players. It needs review imo as a means to recruit players outside the Academy type route as well. Let’s widen the options for young players
