I see the RFU putting forward the idea of central contracts for International players as a way out of the financial hole facing many Premiership clubs. Are they serious - don't they look at how the Welsh regions have been affected by our version of central contracts.
Rugby's all powerful Unions do have a role to play in professional rugby - it should be restricted to passing on an equitable share of the revenues generated mainly by the International level players who have been nurtured by their clubs. They should then step aside and leave it to the professionals to run the game.

Rugby in general feels like it's on the verge of a great depression. English and Welsh rugby struggling financially. To my knowledge viewership hasn't really increased that much in the pro era.

Bristol allowing us to have Dan, arranging short notice friendlies with Cardiff, releasing a prop by mutual consent today. Might be preemptive, might be simple cost cutting/income enhancement. |
