Forcing Internationals without 60 caps to play in Wales in return for very little playing time for the clubs & a bucket full of money has hardly contributed much to the success of regional/club rugby over the past 5-10 years or since it was introduced. What makes you think anything is going to change soon.? Welsh clubs cannot even sign/re-sign anyone at the moment which, if not addressed very soon, could lead to an exodus of the better club players which again is moving even further away from your stated aims above. Supporters of clubs/regions & Wales need to fully understand that we are on the brink; survival is the key word & hope not a fantasy of winning the Champions Cup/World Cup. Us supporters should also realise that no positives can be drawn from the fact that others are struggling namely across the bridge. Most English clubs can survive & be competitive. In both the cases of Wasps & Worcester the blame can be laid fairly & squarely at rank bad management. Until we are a thriving, well funded sport with suitable facilities & a truly professionally coached pathway structure Wales' best chance of unearthing new talent is to scrap the 60 cap rule and allow our talent to thrive anywhere. Just look at the example of Exeter for all the proof you need.

To add to my above post I would add. When/if we reach this dream of well funded, well coached status and our 4 clubs treat the result that Cardiff had last weekend as just another day in the office I would then be in favour of looking at cementing our gains with an overarching rule which stated that you had to play in Wales to play for Wales full stop.
The only proviso being that a player would be exempt if he had not received an equal financial offer of employment from within Wales.

TBH I would like us to produce a better product on the pitch, as a starter.

It seems to me that what people thought to be a loose slate , a job for the dodgy roofer , it turns out the real problem is down to having crap foundations ......

So we have around 80 professional players in Wales coming out of contract this season. To date none of them have received any offers from the Welsh regions for the 2023-24 season & beyond. Am I missing something or would they not jump at the offer of a contract outside of Wales which gave them security for the next 2/3 seasons?
Some of names should make the WRU sit up and realise that time is running out - none more so after his autumn campaign than Jac Morgan. Add in guys like Rowlands, Moriarty, Patchell, Anscombe, Lake & surely we have a situation which will bring the WRU to their senses and get a deal across the line this side of Xmas. Common sense would suggest that, faced with this huge dilemma, they would have this as the 2nd most important task on their agenda once they have made a decision about Pivac. How many of us are confident of a suitable response?????

The longer this takes the more nervous I'm getting that he won't be going anywhere. A part of me is thinking that headline on the WoL is their effort to get the WRU to hurry up.

Maybe the wru want to end the 60 cap rule along with releasing all current internationals from their central contracts ...maybe they feel that currently our international players are vastly over valued , considering the collapse in finances in the English game .....may not make sense but neither do the wru

Did anyone else see Rygbi Pawb last night? Coleg Sir Gar have done well in the competition with several stand our players however having secured a place in the final v Cardiff they fielded a young side last night ready for next year. Obviously they lost v Coleg y Cymoedd but good to see Euros planning for the future.
However , now this is why I'm posting this here, the WRU have refused to release the Milenium Stadium for the Finals next week. Every year these boys look forward to running out on that field. The Cardiff v Coleg sir Gar match is being played at PYS which is still a good stadium but the Plate and bowl final is being played at Ystrad Mynach! What kind of message does this send out to these lads? Cmon WRU! No wonder your haemorrhaging players! |

I think they've rested the majority ready for the final.
The games for next week aren't particularly well advertised but I believe there were supposed to be a couple of games on both Wednesday and Thursday at the principality and they've moved the Wednesday ones and the Thursday ones are TBC. Like Cofi said it's a really poor show from the WRU, I'm guessing it's because the pitch is such a state, something they haven't been able to get right for over 20 years.

WRU have confirmed now that the college games have been moved to other venues and the schools games pushed back to March.
The apology isn't great: "We apologise for the unexpected disruption and any disappointment felt by players and families, but we look forward to welcoming everyone back to the stadium in the Spring." They won't be welcoming everyone back, that's the problem.
