It was an opportunity the club tried to explore. Leinster got the fixture and must have made the NZRU a more lucrative offer. Probably substantially more lucrative. I’d hoped that a NZ game, even one billed as v ‘All Blacks XV’, would’ve been part of the Brad Mooar deal. Having that in the fixture list would’ve boosted season ticket sales a lot.

Hope the Same Warburton column in the Times does wake sufficient people up and be the catalyst to change the rotten system, for the better with something fit for its needs in the modern day.

Scotland played a week early so it doesn't affect them the same, everyone was without internationals that week. England is irrelevant, all their clubs play each other so they're equally affected and compensated. Just looking through the Stormers team sheets and out of the Bokkers only Mngomezulu, Libbok, Roos & Orie have been consistent in their selections this year. The rest have only been involve once, twice or not at all. We're more or less facing the same Stormers who played Cardiff & O's.

And we're playing a week late so it does affect them the same as they couldn't have any players outside of the 2 Scottish club sides.

From Supersport (SA) :
To the number of national players the Stormers will be missing, you can also factor in Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, who was selected to the Bok tour squad and would have been in London were he not injured playing for South Africa A in Bristol last week. That injury will prevent Mngomezulu from featuring in the Stormers’ game against Scarlets at the DHL Stadium on Friday, a game where had he been fit and available he’d probably have worn the No10 jersey. Kade Wolhuter is a prodigiously talented player who deserves an opportunity, but the fact of the matter is that the Stormers are effectively without the services of three flyhalves because of national commitments. Fortunately for both franchises, the Welsh teams will be under-strength for this round due to the Wales/Wallaby game also falling outside the international window, but the number of players missing could have a profound impact on their chances.Stormers coach John Dobson has done a good job of giving fringe players opportunities, but his team will have only two Boks in Herschel Jantjies and Joseph Dweba available for the Scarlets game. The champions will be fielding an inexperienced team against a highly experienced one, despite the Welsh international calls, and it has thrown the result of Friday’s game into more doubt than it should have been. |

Quite misleading that piece. Stormers squad is depleted a bit, certainly at 10, but that's it when you compare the squads/availability/injuries.

They're used to having a domestic season structured to end before any internationals happen aren't they? This whole having to cope with the whims of the Unions and the league mid season is a new issue for them.
Still, I'll take any advantage we can currently. The players they are missing are all big performers and we've got some physical units back. We'll probably be awful and carry on the malaise of this season but with Blade, Carywn, Louisi etc back and a fit Scott Williams anything is possible. You'd want to hope that a lot of our players have a point to prove to Pivac (or more likely whoever replaces him in December) and produce big games on tour. Fingers crossed...

Just read that Blackett is coaching the Barbarians team on Saturday in a friendly against Northampton. Clearly not with us in South Africa. Bit of a bummer if true.

Aye, he did have a gig with the Barbarians lined up, but then the Scarlets option came along and he took that on. The Barbarians gig was then dropped.

Glad to hear that. Clearly the piece I read which featured Tom Wood's return to rugby after his summer retirement to play against his old team Saints was written in advance of recent events. My apologies.
