It's nigh on impossible to carry out a comparision with other Home nations as each manages and shows it ins and outs in different ways unfortunately.

Thats unfortunate. The amount of overhead spent by the WRU compared to say the IRFU would be an interesting comparison as would the amount spent on professional rugby & academies. Of course that will not tell us the whole story but would, I believe, highlight areas of savings available to the WRU. We cannot, of course, get away from the fact Ulster, Munster & Leinster generate substantial more annual revenues from filling their grounds.

A simple calculation would show around £2.5 - 3m extra on gates of around double ours for 13 home games a season. Add in knock out games in Europe & URC and the difference in funding is pretty clear.

Monies received by the WRU (30m over 5 years from 2020) from the sale of a % of the URC to CVC, should not be set against anyting other than the regions income streams, sent to them directly, and each year.

To not do so is criminal. Instead it's been used as leverage to borrow 50m for the 75% ownership of the Park Hotel.

WRU also receives circa 10m a year over 5 years for CVC's purchase of a share of the 6N.

It's a cautionary tale on how to mismanage a 100m income stream awawy from it's primary purpose.

Not sure if the link will work but it compares WRU and IRFU spending .The WRU spends well over £20 m a year than the IRFU on overheads and the amateur game which equates to the additional money The IRFU spends on the professional game in Ireland

Just found this interesting site which has detailed financial information. for clubs in England, Ireland, USA and some French clubs. Interestingly nothing for Wales or Scotland. The Leinster model comes as quite a surprise.
