One of Wales finest sportsmen, if not the best. The longevity he’s shown at the top of one of the toughest sports is incredible.  Chapeau

It’s somewhat telling that the lengths the Tour of Britain has gone to so that his finale is double underlined in bold shows the real and enduring affection for him in the cycling world.

Plus has any fan ever had anything bad to say about him? Riders in the pro world, too, seem universally to like him.

What a sportsman and what an ambassador for pro cycling and a true Welsh icon.
I can’t see there being another cyclist like him again for a long time.  19 years as a professional cyclist shows his commitment and longevity, a winner in the velodromes and in the Tour de France shows his complete versatility as a cyclist.  As good as Pogocar and Vineguaard are, I can’t ever see them being world class at the short distance races.
Like the above posts mention, he is held in great respect and esteem by all his peers and that was evident to see on Sunday, and you never hear anyone (cyclists or pundits) speak ill of him.  He’s also extremely humble and down to earth - I remember being in Pembrey country park a few years ago when the tour of Britain was starting there, he took the time to greet everyone of the hundreds of adults and children who wanted to speak to him or get a selfie, my whole family were fortunate and privileged enough to get such an opportunity.
