Everything I’ve read just looks to be Y11 paying the equivalent that SCC have forked out for the cricket team and RFC relocation as this is the one thing that SCC had over them really with any lawsuit.

In the Council's official Cabinet report (March 25, 2026), it is noted that "The Ospreys and Y11" have indicated they are prepared to make this "significant financial contribution |

It could be part of their strategy that Lance Bradley let slip in a recent meeting - combine the Ospreys and Swansea RFC to play at St Helens in the SRC. This would be a neat way to solve the problem Y11 get Cardiff and a combined Swansea and Ospreys would probabaly dominate the SRC and be able to fill St Helens quite regularly. It would also give Y11 an internal pathway to develop players for Cardiff Regional side. Swansea Council would be happy with a refurbished stadium which brings money and the media. What we should be doing now is relaunching Llanelli RFC and adopt the same strategy - hopefully with some support from the likes of HoL |

One problem with that- it's not the way that SRC was set up. SRC clubs should be co-ordinating with their regions- they shouldn't be the regions themselves. Even in part as you suggest when the Ospreys essentially become an SRC club. Not to mention the very strict salary cap at the outset to force the regions and clubs to share players. SRC is coming to the end of its second season- time for a review, yes. But not a full-scale messing around with.

From the hints and assumptions Reddin has made publically (as we know often misguidedly), he believes that the SRC is the way to develop players in Wales - probably because its the one thing they can control. So I would not be surprised if there has been an "accomodation" done for Y11 and the Ospreys. However, you are very correct, in your statement over salary caps (sponsorships and other payments) that this could spiral out of control and see more clubs having commitments beyond their income and going under. The problem is, I can't see the SRC salary cap of around £5k (before tax) per player being sustainable for the players either - a big ask someone whom is self-employed to risk their livelihood for an extra £4k a year.

Yes I understand, but it tends to say Ospreys and not Y11...so that could be them or it could be just Rob Davies of course ( or both). The way I see it is if Y11 have put some skin in the game for the St. Helens refurb it would the same ££ (or less than) the ££ fees needed to play at the Brewery Field next season. |

I feel like it’s as clear and/or as vague as they want it to be to make it just an “Ospreys” decision rather than is it Y11 or Rob Davies etc 🤷🏻♂️

Is that the official number 5k a year per player in the SRC? I know of at least 2 players in the Championship that are on more than that, and also a player up the valley last year was on a hell of a lot more than that.

Each SRC club started with a salary cap of £150,000. I believe this increased last summer. There was no mention of control over how this was distributed within the squad. Yes, the clubs that stayed out of the SRC, particularly Ponty and Merthyr, did so because they wanted freedom from such control. This means that the more regional (particularly academy )players a SRC club can have access to, the smaller their contracted squad can be and the more they can pay each player within the squad. That is where the complication of how many SRC clubs in each region comes in.

There is a "salary cap" per side of 160k for 32 players - i just averaged this out. However, no doubt there are other ways the players are incentivised to play

This is probably why Lance Bradley mentioned the Ospreys and the Whites merging into the SRC. This also then removes any concerns about Y11 owning two regions and reducing their costs - although moving from one loss making venture to one making even more losses is unusual !
