In tonight's game, the ref was clearly heard to say 'Thank you Peter'. The clock at that point had just gone over the 80 minutes.
I took it to mean that time was up. The ball wasn't in RP's hands and he subsequently kicked the ball down the pitch. I've no way of knowing whether he meant to go for touch. As time was up, is it the ref's responsibilty to tell the players or not ? I've often hear refs tell players 'last play', or tell the players that the next time the ball goes dead that the game will be over. So where does the responsibility lie ? Players or ref ? If it is players, that was poor on our part tonight. We could have lost the game.

Onus is on the players to play the whistle ... If they had asked the question, then it's a different matter ! |

Thanks for that SM.
Poor and unprofessional play by us in that case then. We should have had someone on the touch line telling the players that time was up so that somone could hoof it off the park. Lesson to be learnt there then. |
