Interesting debate after the Llandovery v Newbridge game on Saturday about Havili playing for the Drovers. In case you're temted to take the Newbridge coach seriously - there was an article on ceefax yeasterday saying that Newbridge had signed two promising youngsters from New Zealand, but unfortunately both were sent home from Heathrow because of missing paperwork (sound like they didn't have a work visa). This takes hypocracy to a new league.....

Watkins anger as Tongan import plays key role

Oct 11 2004

Staff Reporter, Western Mail

LLANDOVERY gained their first home win of the season when they rallied strongly in the second half to beat inconsistent Newbridge, writes Huw S Thomas.

Newbridge coach Mike Watkins refused to comment on the game, content to criticise the WRU after the Scarlets' on-loan Tongan wing Aisea Havili had scorched through the visiting defence for a late try.

"I blame the union for letting foreigners play in our league when it does a Welsh youngster out of a place," fumed Watkins.

"Havili is paid handsomely by the Scarlets, is found wanting at the top level, but then deprives Welsh players of invaluable experience - it stinks".

that comes from a man who brought his team to stradey at the end of last season to brawl ,i am sorry to say that if he wants welsh rugby to advance then he had better change his coaching methods.
Yes,I am back with a stewards view on things.

Oh yea, I remember that. They're the most ill disciplined side I have ever seen, ever! If I'm not wrong they had 2 yellows and a red or was it more?

I have no problem with the regional players playing for the club sides as long as they stick to one club side per season. Apparently Dave Tiueti has played for Bridgend and Neath this season. That's out of order IMO.

Both teams are part of that region aren't they?

Yes. I just think that players should commit to one club side per season. For example, I wouldn't like to see Ian Boobyer captaining Llandovery one week and turning out for Llanelli the next.

Yes I agree they should be allocated to a club side to give continuity all round

So do I - could cause a conflict of interest come the end of the season if a player has an interest in more than 1 club. It boost the identity of the club and team spirit if they're not shifted around.
