During a recent U-11's match, a ruck formed from a lineout, 5m in from touch, all players were positioned Open side, so the Ref positioned himself (quite correctly) on the Blind side, looking towards the defending side.

The attacking Scrum Half, decided to go down the Blind Side............

At this point, a small child had entered the playing area from beyond the touch ine & was stood along the midline of the ruck, one metre from touch.

In my true (not give anything away) mode...... WHAT HAPPENED NEXT ????

Prize - A pint from me to the correct guess (or nearest judged by me) at the next home game.

As Scarletman...........     you booted the kid up the arse and threw him on top of the ruck....???????? then proceeded to give the parent a mouthfull for not controlling their sprog.........

As Jon..... You asked him to join in the game or asked him if he wanted to be touch judge

as a ref... you stopped play and called a scrum to the attacking side...

You missed out.

  1. The Scrum halve ran into and then over the young kid.
  2. The young kid tackled the scrum halve, who then knocked on the ball, the kid picked the ball off, ran down the touchline and score a try.
  3. Same as two, but no knock on etc.
  4. The kid's dad or older brother jumped on the pitch to try and protect him.

OK then...

It's gone on long enough.

Let's recap

Lineout, Maul, Ruck - Blindeside wide open, SH goes blind, Ref stood in the 5m channel, .... Young kid stood in play (& here is your clue) directly behind Ref.

Ref steps back to allow SH a route through. Unaware of small child behind him, until Ref hears small child scream in shock at 15 1/2 stone Ref backing into him.

Ref takes evasive action (superb sidestep if I say so myself) missing child completely, but unfortunately not missing Rabbit hole with R ankle.

Result :-

Unscathed, but shocked Child,

Releived but shaken Parent,

Try to attacking side (awarded by Touchjudge, as Ref was unsighted)

Ref's right ankle in plaster with a full rupture to the Posterior Talofibular / Anterior Talofibuler & Calcaneofibular ligaments & partial rupture to the Achilles Tendon  !! But hey at least it's not broken huh !!

So here I am in work, Pissed off !! in Pain !!! & blisters on my hands (FROM USING CRUTCHES) & when I get home, NO BLYDI SYMPATHY from the MRS S, who still expects me to decorate the Kitchen !

Still ... at least I can use the lift in the MS on sunday  !!
