The ball is kicked by Red 10 behind the last man 15 Black, the ball hits a dog / horse / spectator etc... in the in goal area,

DECISION ?????????

Beware !!! you need to ask yourselves a lot of questions,

But in a game situation, you only have seconds !!

1st, Just get to the ball and ground it. before Red do (thats if you are black). ie Play to the whistle.

Then ask your captain to ask the ref what happens next.

The ball is still in play in the same way as if it had hit the posts. Play continues!

yeah, correct D... first person to touch the ball gets the decision. if red get to the ball it's a try. if black get it it's a drop out on the 22...

All right you've suffered long enough ...... It is a discretionary decision by the referee.

6.A.11 THE BALL IN IN-GOAL TOUCHED BY NON-PLAYER

The referee judges what would have happened next and awards a try or a touch down at the place where the ball was touched.

Incidently the same rule is applied to the question that ScarletHeart posted "Blydi Seagull".
