I think the refs are having a mare this season in officiating the rucks....

every game that i've watched now, English, magners, french, european and international. players are continuously coming in from the side and the ref is just ignoring it...

is it because of the new rule stating that players can now challenge for the ball if they are on their feet, surely that's if they come through the gate?

Counted atleast 5 attempts from my seat in the upper tier today, did the referee have a go to their captain about it? (obv couldnt hear in the ground)surely that many infringements for the same thing warranted a card? was so frustrating to watch the game constantly being stopped with the referee unwilling to do something about it!

Only the 1st player there (Jackler) can do that.

If a ruck is formed all other players still have to keep hands off.

A lot of the time, a Ruck is NOT formed as the ball is not on the floor !

Only when one or more players from either side are contesting the ball on the floor, is a Ruck formed.

The "Gate" is also very difficult to see from the sidelines, as a "stray leg" is often unsighted to the spectator.

I just think that the focus is more in going off feet rather than Ruck entry this season, the problem is getting the balance right.

Shoulder's ok, thanks for asking J, can only do small movements for a couple of weeks, just to keep it from seizing up. No lifting at all for 6 weeks ! Mrs S doing all the shopping !! Clap

pathetic rule,as long as you come in from your own side,it is very difficult to ref .

when we played london irish, one of their players, joined the ruck from the scarlets side, right in front of the touch judge and the ref, literally yards from the london irish tryline,no penalty awarded,I felt it prevented us from scoring a try .

C'mon now tho - What we're commenting on is showbiz rugby.

Granted, if you go and see any other youth or district game, you will see a game that is refereed so so differently.

The breakdown this season is a free for all. God knows how refs see it differently, what is concerning is because anything goes, it is like watching a cowboy fight in a bar, barmy as hell. By fiddling with the rules and laws, the best sport on the planet is a ruck free for all and a up and under, i can kick higher than you lottery, the game on Saturday between the Argies and us, bored me senseless to be honest.
In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"

"All you have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us"

The other thing to remember is that the gate for a tackle and the gate for a ruck are massively different. If the jackler has his hands on the ball and raises it 1 mm off the floor then technically there is neither a ruck nor a tackle any more.
