Couple of things here-
Kelly's been gone since November,so Franks has been in charge since then.Interesting, too, that Kelly described as the (now former)"lineout coach".U-20's becoming a favoured destination for former Scarlet forward coaches.
Best of luck to Franks!

Lineout & defensively we have not really improved over the season if the truth be told. I appreciate that it is very early doors for a new coaching ticket but they must be feeling a lot of pressure with some of the hammerings we have been given.

If you look at the tries scored against us by Bristol last Saturday, I can't honestly say it was the fault of the defence coach. We seemed to have a pretty decent structure to our defence and plenty of bodies in front of the attackers. The problem seemed to be one of tacking.   Players not making a tackle seems to me to be more a case of lack of match practice.

There is also physics involved those bristol big guys are simply too powerful for some of our team to stop.  As an example Costello tried  to tackle that big back rower but got swotted aside as did liam by their 23. Rugby is a collision game bigger stronger players will make yards we are simply not big enough or powerful enough to hold these sides out. Same goes for every region

We are conceding just under 5 tries a game on average this season ( 41 from 9 games).

Regardless of size, fixture chaos, quality of opposition etc that isn't a great metric.

Once they pick up speed they are going to be very difficult to stop and we need to close them down quickly and not give them the yards to get into full flow by poor kicking. Either put the ball behind them and follow up quickly, put the ball into touch, or box kick high and close and challenge in the air. Anything else is asking for trouble against against the sort of players we come up against in the modern game.

Ball was in play a lot against bristol. We were a bit tactically naive , kicking at Bristols back 3 was asking for trouble. A change of approach which would of course rely on us having a decent lineout to compete. More than one to skin a cat so to speak.
Think Dwayne has alluded to it having a  balance of a forward oreintated game to go back to, if the scarlet way isn’t bearing fruit.

We don’t have enough carriers or a good enough line out to play a forward power game at presemt

Kicking AT Bristol's back 3 was poor, but a 10 of Patchell's vision and ability can see the spaces and should be able to place the ball, where it's most difficult for the defenders to field, let alone go charging upfield at our defenders. Of course this depends on our backs chasing and harassing and the ability to do this must require practice and playing together regularly which hasn't happened much recently. (by the way I'm not suggesting that it was Patchell that was responsible for the poor kicks against Bristol)

We seem to collapse at the end of games where we are being edged out of a relatively close match, which also makes the scores look horrific.

Bench strength, or lack thereof. With injuries and funding we can put out a solid XV, but the cupboard can get bare beyond that.
