Iolo Griffiths

The former Scarlets academy winger has been released and alike Tal Rees will be focusing on his education as he moves up to Hartpury College. playing any rugby in the BUCS league.

Josh Phillips

The promising Welsh U20s fly half is another academy player on the move as the Scarlets have released him. No immediate destination is clear, but such a young and talented player is sure to be swept up soon.

We need much stronger development pathways and an academy set up properly could even engage with the other community clubs in the region to help developing Junior rugby.
Why do one of the regions Elite clubs need to be based in the same place as the Regional team.
If we are to be viewed as a genuine region then surely the 2 elite feeder teams need to be spread around that region.

I completely agree, its time for the Scarlets and the other three regions to start acting like regional teams.
Of the four current regions, the Scarlets seem to have maintained the best relationship with the three Premiership in the region. Ospreys only support Swansea RFC, Cardiff only support Cardiff RFC and I am not sure about the WRU Dragons.
If regional professional rugby is to recover and flourish its time to start structuring the game into a regional format.

the regions situation, or franchige, in Wales is similar then in Italy..
Franchigie need to do more work with feeder clubs that region rapresents, if not, like happen in Italy, other clubs who dont enjoy the similar financial support feel regions as extraneous entity and dont work all in the same directions..
There are many common points between welsh and italian rugby structures, both with the same problems.
