Scarlets announce exciting multi-year kit partnership with Castore

Scarlets are delighted to announce an exciting multi-year kit partnership with premium sportswear brand Castore ahead of our 150th anniversary season.

The new partnership will see Castore supply the senior squad’s playing, training and travel wear, supporters’ leisure range, as well as kitting out the club’s academy and women’s teams.

Castore will also take over the Parc y Scarlets club shop and e-commerce operations, with the kit going on sale to supporters in late summer.

The Scarlets join Castore’s growing list of sporting partners including, Sir Andy Murray, Saracens, USA Rugby, Samoa Rugby, Rangers, Newcastle United, Wolves and McLaren F1.

To celebrate 150 years since Llanelli RFC was established, Castore have been working closely with Scarlets to deliver a special anniversary edition jersey that will be worn during the 2022-23 URC and European season.

Scarlets Head of Commercial James Bibby said: “It’s a hugely exciting time to be partnering with Castore and we look forward to joining their stable of elite sporting brands.

“I have been impressed by the level of professionalism and talent that the Castore management and design teams have demonstrated over the past few months and look forward to seeing the new Scarlets range being on sale in a few months’ time.

“We have worked closely with Castore to improve our e-commerce platform which will give fans faster and easier access to a high-performance range of women’s and men’s teamwear which I am sure supporters will wear with pride.

“Supporters will be impressed with the quality of the Castore products as well as the increased number of product ranges sold both online and at the club store. We are thrilled to welcome Castore to the Scarlets family ahead of what promises to be a memorable anniversary season for the club and supporters.”

Pascal Lafitte, Director of Partnerships at Castore said: “We are delighted to welcome Scarlets to the Castore team. The partnership further strengthens our presence in rugby, and we’re thrilled to continue this journey with Scarlets and their passionate fanbase.

“The Scarlets are an iconic Welsh club with an impressive history and we believe they represent Castore’s BETTER NEVER STOPS ethos. We look forward to providing their fans with more excitement ahead of their 150th anniversary season.”

Really good news.

People saying about the high price are a bit off the mark. Saracens shirt is £65 (Castore) but Bath's shirt is £64, Leicester's is £60 so not too much different.

Should sell well.

I hope they put a lot of work into the actual design of the main jersey.

They are going to need to understand the spending capacity relative to the Saracens customer base. £70 for a hoodie is a bit steep.

To me, the Saracens stuff doesn't look particularly innovative, and the Manu Samoa kit is basic.

The Castore logo, which seems to be Icarus' wings, is a clash with Scarlets' own. They surely can't just slap a big Castore logo on the front of leisurewear like they have with this, this and this.

Fine balance between a) outsourcing the retail and allowing Castore to be front-and-centre, and b) giving Scarlets some control over this.

Ultimately, I think whether the players feel good in the kit counts for a lot, more than whether I want to buy it. My recent fave was our league-winning kit - simple, modern, scarlet.

150th anniversary is a big opportunity.

* 1872: "dark blue, high collared jerseys and tight trousers reaching well below the knee and blue caps"
* "A further kit change saw Llanelli RFC play in black before the team colours changed to rose and primrose stripes for the 1882/1883 season. In 1883/84 they changed again to red and chocolate quarters."
* " on Easter Monday 14th April 1884 the Llanelli team took the field in Scarlet jerseys – complete with scarlet gold braided caps"

You'd have to think all of that would be in the discussion for anniversary/alternate kits.

Considering that the Scarlets were formed in 2009, a forthcoming 150th anniversary is highly impressive!

You'd have to think all of that would be in the discussion for anniversary/alternate kits.

They offer a dog lead and collar. With Saracens branding. Hope they do the same on the Scarlets offering.

Nice idea and lots of usage.

Good point. Shouldn't it be the RFC having dibs on this?

Quite like their kit, actually, if not their league position.

Like the Lego-esque team bus, that's not a Castore thing.

Not that dog leads will move the needle but, if they outsource all of retail exclusively within the scope of clothing, they may miss these extra brand-tat opportunities.

Does anyone genuinely see it this way or are people just being obtuse? I really don't see the value in essentially sniping at ourselves.

Anyway Castore, looking forward to seeing what they do for us with a fair bit of optimism, although I'm not sure of the correct pronunciation.

I own a Saracens castore shirt and hoodie and I'm very happy with both the quality and fit. Million miles better than macron.

On price point, worth remembering that Bristol sell Umbro gear for £10-15 more than Ospreys do. Bristol shirt is £70 and Ospreys £55.

Don't be surprised to see Scarlets' gear slightly cheaper than Saracens'.

Think the Scarlets shirt will end up at £60-65. It's just the way things are these days for decent replica gear.

Only scarlets supporters can moan for years about a kit brand then moan when we get another. The prices are similar.
