The Scarlets Board is delighted to confirm the club has entered into an agreement for a new strategic partnership with House of Luxury LLC (HOL), an international luxury asset agency with a growing presence in global sport.

Under the terms of the proposal, HOL’s dedicated sports and entertainment investment division intends to acquire a majority stake in Scarlets and will assume non-rugby operational leadership in partnership with the current Board and guided by the club’s unique legacy and heritage.

House of Luxury (HOL) is a US global luxury asset agency behind landmark sales in ultra-prime real estate, sport, automotive and rare collectibles www.houseofluxurygroup.com with a dedicated sports and entertainments division and has confirmed its intention to acquire a 55% controlling stake in Scarlets.

House of Luxury have declared that they intend to become 55% owners of Scarlets and will take charge of 'non-rugby matters'.

I know nothing about this company, and am not familiar with due diligence procedures or balance sheets.

This could be excellent news - or something more dicey.

If anyone with more expertise could express an opinion, we'd have a better idea of where this is likely to go.

Edit: haha! looks as if I posted mine just as Minded was posting his, and quite rightly he has merged the two. Anyway - opinions?

By far the most interesting bit:

KEY ELEMENTS OF THE NEW PARTNERSHIP AGREEMENT

  • The Scarlets identity remains with same badge, colours, stadium and values.
  • Supporter ownership principles continue with a direct relationship to fans maintained.
  • Cultural integrity is protected, including championing Welsh language, community links and club heritage.
  • Parc y Scarlets remains the home of the team with plans to grow stadium usage and fan engagement.

Well, I hope none of us could argue with those aims. I hope not, anyway.

No, which is why we need some opinions from the Scarlets' business leaders, who will no doubt be better placed to provide sensible opinions as opposed to any knee-jerk reactions.

I'm hopeful, as usual, but also a bit worried.

I read the embargoed press release before I posted in the other channel. I for one am excited by this and today starts a new chapter in our history and we aren’t going anywhere without a fight.

Well, at least if the WRU shut us down, they’ll have customers to sell the PyS estate to 😂

Agree with this. I’d like to see the details as being debt free could be huge.
Bit concerned we’ve basically sold the business, though. Maybe it’s what’s needed.

I'm quite surprised... a direct "investment" from HOL, not just a brokerage.

I trust that Simon and the board have always done the best by our club, and that they have hopefully acted as best as can, given the window of options available. Maybe, given the WRU situation and funders' tolerance for further investment, we were looking at end game without something happening?

This certainly changes our diversified ownership model, fundamentally. It doesn't sound like a very Scarletty arrangement - but then, we have not had any significant change in a while, so...

"While working towards a full equity transaction." Does this mean the remaining 45%, or just working toward the 55%?

"Will take up current financial liabilities and responsibility for commercial growth." Implications for Garan, perhaps, but I'm convinced - like HOL appears to be - that sports teams could be using digital channels to do far more around loyalty, relationship etc.

"Leading off-field operational management" ... "will take up current financial liabilities and responsibility for commercial growth and future strategic vision reporting directly to the Scarlets Board." So, Simon is staying as exec chairman? He and Nigel still listed on the announcement's boilerplate list. What exactly will HOL run? She's installing someone to put a rocket under commercial... ? Moffett and Leanne Batts to take the lead on some stuff?

"The Scarlets identity remains with same badge, colours, stadium and values." etc etc - very important to us they have made these commitments, to the extent that this is even in our destiny right now. Continuity of name, region etc.

"assuming all current liabilities" - this doesn't mean debts are cleared. It means they're becoming responsible for them. Is anyone seeing word of them clearing debts?

How is the US registration going to work out for us?

They're saying all the right things. But, given the tone of some of HOL's own online messaging and the untested/unevidenced nature of any deals or previous success, I'm also cautious. Their rugby practice is brand new.

What's HOL's real end game here? What's the exit strategy? Do they genuinely want to stay in this for the long haul? Is this about right-sizing things and sensing an opportunity pre-consolidation? Are they picking at the bones? Or do they feel they are buying into what will be, in its own right, one of the remaining clubs? Why have they bought in to a club that doesn't have a new deal after this year? What’s going to earn the up-side Moffett, Biggar and the other two are after here?

I like all the sentiments and positive commitments today. I hope both they can help us grow and the WRU gives us an opportunity.

I think Simon needs to schedule a fan event.
