Just seen their 9 run into an Italian shoulder then dive like Tom Daley holding his neck. Same as Sexton in game 1. Clear and obvious attempt to get a card.

Yes they cheat but would we say anything if we used the same tactics and won the European cup

Italian defence is very poor, though. Irish backs use same moves all the time. How the carthorse Lowe makes so much ground is beyond me

Absolutely right - even the Irish commentator more or less admitted the 9 was trying it on.

In general, do you think that refs 'prefer' - even if subconsciously - the 'big' teams in a match? I sort of suspect that is the case.

Evidence in today's game - 

1. Italy make a superb line break - their man is tackled 5m for the Ireland line - Porter goes for a jackal, CLEARLY supports his weight on his arms before getting the ball.

Penalty - Ireland.

2. Italy 9 taken out late with a rib-tickler at a lineout. Nothing given.

3. The incident already mentioned where the Ireland 9 tried to get a YC for the Italy second row -penalty Ireland (should hae been nothing at all - or even apenalty to Italy for 'unsportsmanlike conduct'!)

Also, possibly a high tackle on the Italy 15, but no replay or TMO intervention... somehow, in Ireland whenever there is something (or often, nothing) you get a lot of slo-mo replays on the big screen - so long as it favours Ireland's case. You look long and hard to see a replay of Williams concussing Barclay with a forearm smash, because they choose not to show it. (Just the most blatant example of a well-honed policy.) 

Other countries need to retaliate with equally biased TMO replay stuff!

Apart from that - great game - but blatant cheating does get my goat.

It's the Irish way and being no 1 they are not pulled up for it. Going back years me and the infamous SmellyMike moaned and moaned about the potato pickers.

Mike Adamson and these sorts of things go hand in hand too often, IMO. 

I think it’s a competency issue and possibly supplemented by either not wanting too much help from his assistants or creating that impression inadvertently. I can understand not having much faith in the week in week out league, depending on who’s there, however, with Wayne Barnes and Craig Evans as assistants.

Having said that, how on earth is McCloskey still on the pitch after a forearm tackle on Capuozzo’s nose???

Adamson and competence akin to ball in hand and a knock on.

Adamson is one of the poorer on the international circuit.

Lot of young players in this Italian side, can only get better. I can see us struggling against them
