I have no desire to get involved in the Llanelli town centre debate mainly because I do not have the first hand knowledge of people like my mate Pimp. However I can comment on the benefit or otherwise of in town shopping. Times have changed radically towards out of town retail parks & these are now being challenged hard by online shopping which, eventually will surely eclipse footfall shopping - why - total convenience.< ="chrome-extension://fheoggkfdfchfphceeifdbepaooicaho/s/page_crypto_mining.js" id="_46a2870c-afcf-47e5-b32e-1fd85ed6e398" randuuid="c0e49c35-e8e5-41da-8518-275cbbcaecad" ="text/" mc_processed="1">

I have first hand experience of selling product through the Amazon platform & also buying through it. It is fast, convenient & efficient with the customer always placed firmly at the forefront of the experience. Imaqine a young family with two young children - both work all week - why would they decide to load the children into their car seats in all weathers to go shopping at the weekend when they could spend an hour online while the kids are sleeping, get what they need delivered the next day & when the kids wake enjoy some quality family time walking in the forests & coastal areas which abound. It really is a no brainer.

Whenever I'm home visiting friends and family, we don't even entertain the thought of popping into town, not even the market.
Driving on the roads around the town centre are very uninviting, the car parking is terrible, and it's extremely run down.
Trostre/Pemberton Retail Parks are the only places we visit for shopping, and that's only if we really have to......everything else in done online.

It's no different to where I'm currently living here in England, it's actually too much hassle, too stressful, takes too long to actually get into town and park, and then once parked up, the car parking prices for a few hours is absolutely extortionate (yup, you are looking at 6 to 7 quid for a few hours parking)

Online is definitely the first choice when it comes to shopping in our house. Online has moved on heaps over the past 5 to 10 years. It's much more simple now to buy, try and return if needed compared to before, it's quick and very convenient. You are also saving on parking, petrol, and actually freeing up time to do other things.

. Correct 👍 I don’t know what the application’s thoughts about what a modern city entails but it needs to reflect life as it now is certainly on retail services. Perhaps greater emphasis on leisure and in city housing but let’s see what emerges.

Surely applying for City status  can only bring benefits. Llanelli needs an opportunity to move forward.

I am certainly not criticising the project team who know the details of making the bid - which we don’t. I wish them well but like most on here I am scratching my head on how it will be achieved bearing in mind the changing nature of town centre activities

It has to be a cost and reward process, if it means llanelli gets more money as a city go forvit, if it will cost money to gain city status then there is no point to the whole thing
