Newport away Saturday called off game awarded to Newport
The mismanagement of Llanelli RFC by those at the helm is a disgrace.
They've dragged the club through the mud over many years now, but to kill the end of the season off in such a manner is farcical.
For a Premiership side to fail to grasp permits and field a side is shameful.

Any news on the snazzy new Elite Domestic Competition?
The WRU said that the application process would be concluded by the end of 2023 so they must be pretty far down the road by now in terms of getting something a bit more concrete out.

Regarding criteria 1;
Cardiff asked the WRU what would happen if they pulled out for next season and were told it would be bottom of the pyramid. So I'll be honest, it doesn't look good for Llanelli here.

And given there is another restructuring on the leagues, Llanelli RFC could be starting in Division 4 West A next season.

Premiership clubs have now seen the application packs as they've been sent out.
Up to the clubs to decide on if they apply for the Elite 10 competition.

My gut feeling is both Drovers and Quins will make the cut.
I think they will poss go down the route of 2 from each Region plus others. Geography will play a part with Quins the furthest west club with a big catchment area which includes Pembs. Drovers have produced/developed quite a few pro players over the years, with Quins having probably produced/developed more than any other club in the league ?? Both Drovers and Quins have excellent junior sections and pathways thru into Scarlets. Other criteria will come into play, but I think both have a good chance of getting in to this Elite league. Just my thoughts, having watched both clubs and RFC over the years.

WalesOnline can reveal the full details of how the Welsh Rugby Union's new Elite Domestic Competition (EDC) will work. Provided there are no setbacks along the way the WRU's forward thinking plan will revolutionise the game in this country for the better. The EDC will sit above the Welsh Premiership and below the regional game. The most significant aspect sees the clubs involved effectively break away from the community game and come under the remit of the Professional Rugby Board and the Rugby Management Board. WalesOnline has seen a high level document which outlines a strong plan for player development over the next three years, a £150,000 salary cap on the playing squad and £60,000 on backroom staff. The regions will meanwhile have control over key decisions such as appointing a director of rugby at what will essentially be their feeder club. |

What is the purpose of the EDC?The aim is to bridge the gap between the semi-professional game and the United Rugby Championship while it seems the WRU are doing their best to regulate and professionalise player development. p:nth-of-type(6)","type":"performPlaceholder","relativePos":"after"}" data-placeholder-placeholder="" data-response-start="1760" data-type="placeholder" style="font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-image: none; background-position: 0% 0%; background-size: auto; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-origin: padding-box; background-clip: border-box; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; caret-color: rgb(20, 20, 20); color: rgb(20, 20, 20); font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif;"> The WRU themselves describe the EDC as being intended to provide "high quality playing and club-based development opportunities for those in Wales below the fully professional game in a competition environment that more closely replicates the demands and goals of professional rugby." With the development of players at the forefront of the WRU's plans the main goal of the EDC is the following: p:nth-of-type(8)","hideOnSensitiveArticle":true,"relativePos":"after","name":"taboolaMidArticle","selector":"taboola-mid-article-thumbnails","targetType":"mix","placement":"Mid Article Thumbnails","type":"taboolaDesktopMidArticleThumbnails"}" data-taboola-placeholder="" data-response-start="1760" data-type="taboola" data-response-end="25142" style="font-size: 16px; -webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-image: none; background-position: 0% 0%; background-size: auto; background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll; background-origin: padding-box; background-clip: border-box; border: 0px; margin: 0px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline; caret-color: rgb(20, 20, 20); color: rgb(20, 20, 20); font-family: "Open Sans", sans-serif;"> Volvo Cars< ="" ="-cta- -cta-style" style="margin: 0px; height: 24px; font-size: 10px; line-height: 13.2px; border-radius: 4px; border-color: rgb0, 0, 0; font-weight: bold; cursor: pointer; outline: currentcolor; font-family: " Sans", Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif; padding: 1px 4px; width: 72px; min-width: 1px; opacity: 1; -shadow: none; transition: none; trans: none; color: rgb0, 0, 0;">Learn MoreDiscover the fully electric Volvo EX30 Omaze< ="" ="-cta- -cta-style" style="margin: 0px; height: 24px; font-size: 10px; line-height: 13.2px; border-radius: 4px; border-color: rgb0, 0, 0; font-weight: bold; cursor: pointer; outline: currentcolor; font-family: " Sans", Helvetica, Verdana, sans-serif; padding: 1px 4px; width: 72px; min-width: 1px; opacity: 1; -shadow: none; transition: none; trans: none; color: rgb0, 0, 0;">Try NowFor £10 You Could Help People With Breast Cancer and Win a House
What will the format be?There will be two competitions played at this level in a season, the WRU Elite Domestic Championships and the WRU Elite Domestic Cup. The EDC will be played between September and December while the cup will take place in March and April. The EDC will shadow the URC with a block of rounds up to the autumn internationals but the competition will pause for three weeks, before resuming with the remaining rounds. It will culminate with a final at the Principality Stadium, subject to availability, in late December. |

] RGC remains a problem area. They have been doing a lot worse in the last few years than they used to perform. How they fit into the 4 professional regions in the new set is unclear. The WRU has had years to sort it out up there as well

Llanelli have been ruled out of this competition as they haven’t competed in the WRU league structure this season.

Sad to read that, at the same time there’s a part of me that would struggle to see an under funded and unstructured entity make another go for it.
The Prem in the meantime has moved even further ahead with stacks of ex pros in several teams. |
