I suppose you’re never going to stop it so you might as well regulate it and as proposed make the step between the regions and the semi pro level easier. As the English model has shown this salary cap needs to be regulated as the championship is a free for all. |

It does beg the question, will Llanelli RFC want to re-start at the bottom of the structure?

Great point. Players are turning down (admittedly modest) regional offers as they earn more with a Prem club. That's dangerous. |

They shouldn't but there are multiple, by all accounts 4 or 5, teams in Pembrokeshire under investigation of suspicion of paying players - right down to 3 West A. Now we know Narberth pay as they don't sign the Statement of Truth to say they don't pay.

Just reading up on it and I'd imagine the questions clubs will be asking will be things like:
- How can you fit 19 games (final included) into 17 weeks for the league? They say it'll run Sept to Dec with a final in Dec - How can we have a sustainable club with only a handful of Cup games between Christmas and the end of the season? And what does a 6/7 round cup comp look like with 10 teams?? - Is the DOR approved/appointment by the regions included in the backroom staff? 60k will be a struggle even excluding the DOR - What commitment will there be from the regions on player volumes downwards? Running a semi pro squad on 150k will need a good few 'free' players from the regions, and how will this work for RGC? - How can you build long term relationships with regions/unis/colleges/schools with only a 3 year guaranteed licence? - Are there any incentives to winning? i.e. prize money - What's plan B if not enough clubs apply for it? This is really just the WRU being unable to admit they've lost all control around the premiership and are asking the existing clubs to sign up to a new agreement where the WRU will get some control and governance in place, they'll also be hoping/expecting a couple of teams don't apply. They'll then effectively have an 'A' league but with recognised club names rather than 'Region A'. Clubs aren't thick, they'll see straight through this. The Welsh Rugby Union have called an emergency meeting tomorrow night after three prominent Premiership clubs in the Cardiff pathway signalled their intention not to apply for the new Elite Development Competition. WalesOnline understands Cardiff RFC, Merthyr and Pontypridd have doubts about the viability of this new competition, and are seriously considering not applying with the deadline for an expression of interest set for Friday. All three clubs have already met with the WRU to outline their concerns which include the salary cap, a reduction in the number of home games compared to a traditional community season, the planned mid-season break with no fixtures, commercial sustainability and the potential dilution of historic brands. |

The gap in the fuxturrs is far too long. Though cardiff and merthyrs salary cap concerns tells me they are paying too much tbh

The salary cap point is laughable really, but the fixture gap and reduced home games etc is very real.

I went to a dinner in ponty last xmas (andy powell was the speaker a topic for another day) they have a genuine dislike for cardiff and for us, (less so the ospreys and dragons) not sure why we are on their hate list. But as far back as i can remeber they have been niggly to us (cornekius getting hit off the ball, two men sent off in a league fixture (maybe rge first ever lge fixture?), neil jenkins getring sent off for kicking a player in a cup semi, jim scarlet and phil john esoecially seened to take delight in cheap shoting our players) any idea what all that was about? Never really recall there being much dislike here historically towards them?
