Don't post on here often but I joined to celebrate the achievements of Llanelli Wanderers this season.
The senior team won promotion to Div 1 for the first time in their history and will be one of the few teams at that level not paying players, this was achieved using a squad made up mostly of players that made up a successful youth side not long ago, with talented players like Jonathon George (10), Rhydian Morgan (12/13) and Sean Jenkins (7) at the fore. At the same time they've given debuts to a number of youth players.
The Youth team, made up mostly of a mixture of first and second years, coached by Jon Hope and Nick Macey, have excelled all year losing only twice against Carmarthen Quins away and Nantyffyllon in the Welsh Cup.
In the league they averaged 40+ points a game, doing noticeable doubles over last year's Champions Carmarthen Athletic, Lampeter Town and Felinfoel Youth.
After the league finished they played the winners of the East Carmarthenshire league Tumble in a play off, which they won 42-5. They progressed to play Nant Conwy from North Wales, drawing 7-7 and losing in a penalty shootout to deny them the chance of making the top 4 in Wales.
Finally they won the League Cup in a repeat of last year's final, seeing off Felinfoel 39-16. A number of u16s made debuts for the Youth to ensure the pathway continues. The team includes many talented players such as Captain Shaun Edwards (7), full back Kalum Evans, outside half Ioan Hughes, props Chris Rumblelow and Richard Bassett, and Lloyd Pike (8).
Don't like to brag but I think it's a season to be remembered for a club on the up!

Congratulations to Llanelli Wanderers. It's good to know that values are maintained, and that West Wales clubs are keeping the conveyor belt of talent going.

Nice to hear the wanderers are doing well, walked passed the ground when I was home last and it was looking prety good (obviously benefitted from the development) I brought a team down from Saffron Walden a few years ago now on an easter tour and we still have fond memories of the club. Are you still based above the pub by the old cinema??

Wanderers are presently based at Llanelli Cricket Club aka 'The Ranch'. There is definitely a feel good factor at the club and the season is just reward for the hard work of a number of people at the club. Most notably Jon Hope and Nick Macey whose complete enthusiasm has rubbed off on a talented bunch of boys.
All the boys have fully played their part and the boys mentioned should surely go on to play at a higher level, whether around here or not. Unfortunately, some of those boys have not received the credit they deserve at regional and national level this year, unbelievable really. A special mention for 18 year old tight-head prop and hooker Richard Bassett, who has apparently scored 15 tries for the youth from the front row and bagged a try on his first start for the 1st team this season. Very impressive, In all my time watching rugby I have not seen a front row forward with such a complete skill-set.  Let's hope these boys are developed further to play at the highest level possible. One boy who wasn't mentioned is Josh Weeds, 2 tries in the final from wing and who is equally adept at hooker, back row scrum half or anywhere it seems. Another very skillful player. I could go on and on.
Much of the youth rugby has been an absolute pleasure to watch and a pleasant antidote to some of the dirge around. It goes to show that there is plenty of young talent around the Llanelli area and which, to be fair is not just limited to Llanelli Wanderers. Da Iawn all and good luck next season for the challenges ahead.
You were born to win, but to be a winner, you must plan to win, prepare to win, and expect to win.

some cracking games in division 1 west next year with Wanderers, Kidwelly, Felinfoel and Llangennech all in the same league. Saw Foel v Llan and Foel v Kidwelly this season and the banter in the week building up to the games was great. Big crowds 200+ for both games. Village pubs busy, club house full. This is what club rugby is about.
what was your flash forward?

Pontyberem were unlucky, just couldn't capitalise on a good lead at half time! Competitive game though!
