Some clubs who pay players (allegedly) only pay for league games. Therefore lots of players unavailable at these clubs.  Even in the lower divisions.
I'm sick of it

There are 6 clubs in Pembs under investigation for paying players.

That’s truly concerning. WRU has to do more to support and guide the community game

Quite a good advertisement  for the local community  game today, and it came from an unusual source.
I really enjoy a Derek Brockway's " weatherman walking" series, purely down to the wonderful  variety  of locations
Quite  by chance, I caught this episode, when he, walked from Cross Hands to Felinfoel on the  new cycle path via Horeb, Tumble and Swiss Valley .

It was indeed a lovely a walk.

At Tumble  he stopped at Tumble , RFC talked to one of the club coaches ( ex Swansea wing) Richard Rees, watched their women's section  team  play, and even managed a successful conversion.
The women are coached by none other than  Sioned Harries , Wales no 8.  She will surely a considerable amount with her experience to the future success.
Not long-ago there was some coverage of how difficult  it was to keep the clubhouse going, with the increasd overheads etc.
I really hope things are now better,  as clubs like Tumble are not just the bedrock of Welsh rugby, and just as important,  a central abd unifying focal point in the village.
The fact that it's a club that's produced so many great players, including  our own coaches Dwaine Peel and Gareth Williams.
When I was growing up, Tumble dominated the west Wales league, and were formidable  opponents.

A great programme,  and a nice boost for Tumble.

Interesting for me to see a match with uncontested scrums from the outset (Ammanford couldn't put out a front row).

Ammanford thus get penalised and go down to 14 from the start, can't replace any front rower in the game, have to have 8 in a scrum (so a back),and the No 8 can't pick up directly off the back of the scrum.

All seems fair enough, but in reality teams have worked out how to best deal with those constraints. So in this Ammanford played no props ( put in back rowers as props), and put their fastest back at No 8. So effectively had 4 back rowers and a back in the scrums.

Emlyn had their normal front row out ( 2 props and a hooker) and so found that the numerical advantage was neutered by Ammanford's more mobile pack. The ref wasn't particularly quickto spot that none of the Ammanford back row were properly bound at a scrum, all flying off the scrum in to the back line pretty much on put in. It took Emlyn a while to figure out how the back field was so crowded off a set piece. To that end Ammanford scored a couple of lovely tries off scrums in their own 22 whilst Emlyn's pack were still looking up from the scrum

This is not a slight against Ammanford by the way, they just worked the problem, but it's a problem that still prevails in the game when uncontested scrums are called pre a game starting.

Eventually the extra man, and limits on subs, did impact the result, but it was an odd affair.

No 8 can't pick up from scrums, but he can play scrum half at scrums which allows him to pick and go.

Some talk that some of the Pembrokeshire sides in division 3 west A want to return to a ring fenced Pembrokeshire league - travel costs being a bit of a factor. The Pembrokeshire sides who are higher up in the league system want to be able to enter 2nd teams if such a league happens.

Seems logical tbh . Lots pf people work weekends now we need to make it easy for players to get to fixtures. More local derbys make sense tbh

The league rules that came out staed that 2nd-6th in West A and West B will make division 3 next year with the rest making a division 4, so would this still be the case?

As far as I know this will be in place of that rather than sides going into a division 4 as it would mean increased costs for travel etc.

From what I have heard well over half the teams in district H have voted to go back to a Pembrokeshire league from the 2024/25 season.

Would be a closed league for 3 seasons & from then any club who won the league could apply to go back into the WRU pyramid if they so wished.
