The whole bag thing is a bloody con. Little example. Marks were one of the first to bin the free bags. It was then pointed out by some environmental specialist that the carbon footprint from one plane/boat bringing goods in from South America for Marks is worse than that left by all of the bags used by their customers over a ten year period.
So their carbon footprint has more to do with the location of suppliers, and sale trends rather than plastic bags.
