Don't know if Mark has had the time to contact every yet, but just communicating this now I've had the opportunity.

SG called Mark this morning. He wants to meet us next week in light of yesterday's news. Any day bar Friday is good for me. Ideally no earlier than 5.30pm but could be flexible if absolutely necessary.

I'm quite pleased and alarmed at the same time that SG has asked us to meet.

I'm pleased as he feels that we can be of some use to him. I'm under no illusions that he sees us as nothing other than a convenient focus of fans (that aren't Jason Richards!).

I'm alarmed as we are being sucked in by the club and are becoming an "official supporters club".

Whatever!! I've emailed Carwyn Jones and asked him why he's called in Stradey but didn't call in Island Farm. I've suggested that he had an ulterior motive in Bridgend and have asked him to explain himself. As I didn't expect a coherent reply, I've copied in Alun Cairns (our Conservative AM for this area on the PR vote) to ensure that I get an answer. Not that it'll change anything, but at least it'll put pressure on him - especially as I will also write to the Glamorgan Gazette to keep the heat on. I'm not a Conservative supporter (working for the NHS, how could I be?), but I know Alun and he is fair. At least it will keep him honest! I've also reminded him that it is election time in the Assembly next May.

I agree with Gareth and Mike in that this will end up with a smaller planning consent - will that decrease the land value?

I can't think of anything constructive to do. I was in school with Adam Price (Plaid, Carmarthen), if that's any good as he was also from Tycroes (bit of an odd-ball in school, actually) - not that he's interested in rugby, other than the men's bottoms. Anyone have any contacts in the political world?

My boss is very friendly with Adam Price, though not sure what use/how interested he'd be. Helen Mary is already on record as being pro-resident.

I'm going to be in the company of Rhodri Morgan briefly a week Monday. I've only met him once before at a Wales hospitality bash and I didn't like him. I'll have a chat with him if I get the opportunity, push him for some sort of comment on the matter - more out fo curiosity than anything else.

Ps - what is everyone's take on Huw being present at the meeting?

Very interesting.

Huw introduced himself to me this morning (as I stood by my Land Rover plastered with 'Just Say Yes ' posters) and was very pleasant.

I think he's taking an interest in what we're doing, but obviously with an eye to what we can do in the circumstances.

Following on from your post Abbey, I agree with your assessment to a degree, but surely, we have already talked about basically replacing the 'Supporters' Club' anyway, as it is basically defunct, and would presumably assume it's role to a certain extent, whilst still maintaining a large degree of autonomy as a democratic organisation.

Basically Stuart's comment, and I've no doubt that he will have said something similar to Mark, was that they had to do something to counter the arguments of the protestors. (Which to an extent we have already started to do with our efforts in the local press anyway). I would hope that they would welcome any support we can give, especially of the kind which Abbey has already initiated, but be willing to accept the views of the working group in deciding on the extent of our involvement at this stage.

I used to work for the Plaid Cymru Assembly Members Group as a policy officer and have a few good contacts in the party (AM's and party officials).

I think Elin Jones is the Shadow Planning Minister, but if HMJ has already gone pro-resident, the chances of Elin coming out in favour is nowt to slim. It's a big decision for HMJ as she's only standing for the Llanelli consituency next time - not on the Regional list. So if she fails to win Llanelli back she's out of the Assembly. So it's not a decision she would have taken lightly.

Can someone ask SG and Huw on Monday what (if any) political interference would be useful and at what level? I'll be back in the country on the 8th of Aug and am more than willing to try my best to get a positive statement from somebody in the party.

I think hounding Carwyn Jones on the Island Farm discrepancy is well worth doing, and well done for getting the ball rolling Alun.

Forget the planning issues, this is now a political dogfight, and we could create havoc for them if went about it the right way.
Llanelli is very, very, important to Labour. Helen Mary Jones's victory was hugely embarrassing for them and they don't want another Blaenau Gwent. Why do you think we see Catherine Thomas's boatrace on every other page of the Star?

This is why they want to see us.

Has HMJ actually stated she fully supports the residents though?. I thought she'd been a bit 'vague'.
What is Nick Bourne's role in this btw?

Don't know.  Even if she has, if it can be proved that there is a stronger opinion within the constituency in favour of moving stadium and developong Stradey then I've no doubt she'd come out in support.

Interesting that Bridgend was staunchly Labour in the council, Cardiff Bay and Westminster and Island Farm wasn't called in - but Llanelli is now largely Plaid and it is. A connection?

It's good news that CCC actually passed the planning application yesterday and it will be very, very difficult for the WAG to completely overturn the planning rather than modify it somewhat.

Agree wholeheartedly with your last point. There will be a token reduction in the number of housing, something which, if I was a cynic, I'd say had even been factored in from the beginning.

How we survive with an extra season, or two at Strade is what worries me.
