Out of town retail parks stink.

Out of town retail parks are the dogs testicles.. they are so so much better than town centres.... and they are the future..... especially when they co-exist with a sports complex.....

& FREE Parking ....... Not the £6.80 for 3 hours in some of the Cardiff NCP's !!

was there the weekend, cost me £12!!!!!!!!! 5 hrs!!!! no wonder they can afford iestyn harries and lomu!!!!

I couldn't even kid myself that this was the case. Every out of town shopping place is the same. Tesco, Argos, Pizza Hut, Subway, B&Q... What is the point?

These places are the death of choice and individualism. If everyone wanted to dress in Next clothing, then thats fine, but thankfully not everyone does.

I'm delighted about the new stadium, but the thought of it surrounded by commercial crap is quite sickening. It's a sad fact that in modern day rugby, this is the only way forward. The Scarlets brand tainted from an association with mindless consumerism... Sad really.

And my parents Street is Pemberton Park... Surely in Welsh, this is Parc Pemberton. The originality of these developers astounds me. They'll have to change this really.

That's not a good thing though. The fact that our money is going to Tesco and Next is detremental to the local economy - more money gets piped out to the head offices and doesn't stay in Llanelli. Reduced money multiplier effect.

The fact that it is creating jobs and taking trade away from local producers in the market and small businesses in the town centre is a shame. The lack of charity shops is a problem, yes.

I'd urge people to read this: Clone Town Britain. How Swansea smacks of this and how Llanelli is turning into one of the case studies.

http://www.neweconomics.org/gen/z_sys_publicationdetail.aspx ?pid=206

But then, is there any point? Resistance is futile as the Star Trek quote correctly states.

don`t agree there, small town shops are far more expensive as they can`t buy in bulk like the big chain names do. how can you talk of money going out of the town? are you serious? add all the stores together, add up how much wages they put into llanelli peoples bank accounts, then check how much the likes of reginald watson/solid gold/and all the other extrortionate small town bussiness put back in. i think you`ll find that llanelli would be a ghost town if it were not for these big stores coming to trostre, for if they were not there people would do what they used to do before they came.... and go to cowing swansea to shop!!!!!

i`m sick of these people banging on about town centre. it can never compete. even if it had the shops. its got crap parking, and every 50 yards you have to negotiate a druggy carling drinking yob "chilling" on the bench whilst the dss get his/her "emergency" giro ready at 3 o`clock. if it wasn`t for the fact i need to go into the bank now and then i would gladly never step foot in town centre again!!!!

and don`t even get me [beep]in started on those strategically positioned tarbarded do-goodin twats that think collecting £40 a month from YOUR wages is gonna 1, save the world

2, give the governments of those countries that need saving even more surpluss money to spend on weapons,

then theres the [beep]in grattan, littlewoods, and freemans brigade who will take 30 arsewholing minutes to finally tell you that you are not entitled to a [beep]ing catalogue that you never wanted in the [beep]in first place!!!

then, for crowning glory  you have a mix of double glazing, sky tv, rac, aa etc salemen.

just when you think it can`t get any worse...... a little voice comes from behind you "any accidents lately sir?" AAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHH DONT GET ME WRONG , I LOVE MY TOWN WITH A PASSION. BUT OUR TOWN CENTRE IS A NIGHTMARE!!!!!! IT WOULDN`T MATTER IF ALL THE SHOPS WERE THERE, ITS THE GAUNTLET OF THE ABOVE LISTED THAT YOU HAVE TO NEGOTIATE JUST TO NIP TO PAY A BILL.

not once but some times three times as you have to tell there strategically positioned mate that you`ve just told their other stregically positioned mate to go away you ain`t got time, the bank/post office will be effin shut now!!!!!!!

I don't know, on the odd occasions I walk through Llanelli town centre in the morning/afternoon, I always find it a nostalgically settling experience!

Yeah, thats the point. The town centre is dead because of the Trostre developments, which have taken so much at Trostre that the town centre could never compete. And so we have another big box development with the same stores as in Swansea, Newport, Brigend, Cardiff, Cwmbran and so on.

Excluding Cardiff and maybe Newport, each of those towns has had its town centres destoyed by out of town developments. By allowing out of town developments, the inner town centre gets hit.

Yes the town centre is dead, and that is the point. We've attracted consumers elsewhere and left a big fat mess in the town centre - empty shops and accident lawyers. Identi-kit developments do not mean the regeneration of Llanelli, but mean that in a few years we'll have to deal with the derelict area inside.

Admittedly, I hate Trostre. But I don't shop there, so fairplay to you people who do. If you like it, fine. My point is that these shops strip the individuality of towns away. And that can't really be denied.

If you're losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul left to lose.

Town centre has been a poo hole long before trostre with regards shops. How many people used to go to cardiff or swansea to do xmas shopping because of the better choice? We're catching them up now.

The stadium may change, but the dream will remain the same!

With regards eating and a night out, Llanelli is like scraping a dustbin in a lane compared to Swansea.
