Following on from the Dr topic about Top 5 albums i can see there are some proper music fans on here so seeing that i have gone into a bit of a rut and not added to my music collection can people please suggest some bands and/or albums i should be getting into. Any type of music except the majority of rubbish that is played on Radio 1 in the daytime.

This week i have been mostly listening to Kids in Glass House and Seth Lakeman.

Opeth
Eloy (70's German prog, oh yes)
Midlake (Trials of Van Occupanther a corking album, very CSNY), talking of whom:
Crosby, Stills and Nash (and Young)
Iron and Wine
The Cult (seeing them in Brizzle tomorrow, rifftastic!)
Wolf People (return of the flute in rock! Might as well check out Jethro Tull while you're at it!)
Going to stop now, or i'll be here all night talking about fossil rock and the merits of prog:)

Post-hardcore: Funeral for a friend, Boy Sets Fire.

Punk: NOFX (45 or 46), Municipal Waste (Waste 'em all).

Hardcore/mathcore/metalcore: Cancer Bats (Hail Destroyer), August Burns Red (Constellations), Architects (Ruin, Hollow Crown).

If you fancy something very different try some Experimental Metal: Between the Buried and Me (The Great Misdirect) or Opeth (Still life, Deliverance).

Wavves - King of the beach (surf rock, great melodies)
Telekinesis! - Telekinesis! (pure indie goodness, shades of Death Cab)
Talons - Hollow Realm (instrumental math-rock from Hereford)
The National - High Violet (no explanation needed)
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion (experimental geniuses with beach boys melody)

That's the last year's worth of music listening crammed into a paragraph!

that was a list i made for a evans, he said he was listening to alot of KIGH, so i think they were decent albums that person will like. read on and it goes on to say what i am now into. the list i made may be crap to you, but ask me to draw up a list for you, and give me something to go on, and i  will make you suggestions. i have everything in my collection, from indie to shoegaze, to punk, to hip hop, to ambient, to world music and even classical.

How about a local band, V0ID.

All Llanelli boys.

Cross between the Manics, Phonics etc

Zero - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3yM-Xf64bY

Beaten & Bruised - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJxr_v_quY4

They've played the Met recently and a few other venues locally. Very good band. Find myself playing their stuff quite often.

Although I'm referring to when the 'Phonics were decent (first two albums), anything after that, not fussed either.

Recently been listening to Bellowhead, Imagined Village and Show of Hands from a folky point of view. Really impressed with Bellowheads latest album Hedonism lot better than their last one.

Not so impressed with the new My Chemical Romance album though. Bit too radio friendly and moving further away from the first couple of albums. New Funeral for a Friend stuff is going the other way by the sounds of it the EP last year was their best release for years so hoping the new album follows suit.

Also in the car at the moment Gaslight Anthem, You Me At Six, Rammstein, Flogging Molly and Paramore.
