I'm dreading what the public vote as their favourite, but it's fun to do it yourself. Fill it in and post them in this thread.

I have been trying to narrow mine down for 48 hours now. They've changed 19 times.

I still can't do it.

I have about 6 of the 8. But the last 2 choices I need to make from a list of about 25 songs!

This is really when you have to differentiate between "best" and "favourite"

8 songs for the rest of eternity.

so dificult

I agree, 8 songs for the rest of your life, you would get sick of them. Your taste and variety in musical diversity changes as you age.
Music i couldnt stand as a 20/30 i now enjoy. The stuff i grew up with, i still adore and enjoy, but the spectrum i listen to now is quite literally, everything.

So to choose just a few is a no brainer for me, i will just stay home and forget about being marooned.

In 1972, Roy Bergiers scored that try and said "that was for you lofty"

i managed 8. i started, then all these great tracks came flying into my head, so i just stopped, went back and typed the first 8 that came to my head but made a rule of no doubling up on artists.

Went for -

Super Furry Animals - Nyth Cacwn
Gruff Rhys - Honey All Over
Mogwai - Kids Will Be Skeletons
My Bloody Valentine - You Made Me Realise
Elliott Smith - Angeles
The Replacements - Alex Chilton
The Cure - Burn
The Ataris - Graveyard of the Atlantic

so many left out. artists like springsteen, death cab for cutie, swervedriver, primal scream, slowdive, heatmiser, jawbreaker, foo fighters, strokes, vaccines, explosions in the sky, jesus and mary chain, gaslight anthem, 65daysofstatic, doves, sufjan stevens, so many more could have been in that 8.

i do yes kidA. few have said its a strange one, but i do think its ther best one, if only tonight we can sleep is up there too though amongst many others! but burn was the track that properly introduced me to the cure and made me check out more of ther stuff, great song, and a soundtrack to a fantastic film imo.

It was released as a single though.

Live in Paris by The Cure was the first album of theirs I heard (with c sometimes and catch on among others), and totally got me hooked. It's a brilliant album:
