Just thought id start a little topic for vinyl collectors (if theres any on here).
What have you got?
Where do you get them from?
Do you buy vinyl instead of CD's?

Mogwai - Special Moves (boxset including 2 vinyls, the CD, patch, Download code and signed poster) 400 made.
Super Furry Animals - Man Don't Give a [beep] (12" Single) very rare.
Gruff Rhys - Shark Ridden Waters (12" Single) 240 made.
Gruff Rhys - Hotel Shampoo (unsure on the number made).
Alkaline Trio - This Addiction (white vinyl) 1000 made.

Dafydd Iwan, Meic Stevens, and fair few others that i have had passed down and the ones i had when i was a child back in the 80's! like keith harris and orville!!!!
 i have not long started collecting vinyl. i am not sure why it took me so long. i have now stopped buying the dead art of CD's as music is so easy to get at the tip of your fingers be it legal or illegal. Vinyl still has that excitement to own something, collect, be it a new release or old, rare etc. Spillers Records and Kellys Records in Cardiff are fantastic for vinyl. derricks is average. i am told that the salvation army charity shop has a lot of vinyls in sometimes? but have not been yet.

Dont laugh, but these are the original vinyls i have boxed away safely. All ELO albums, everyone including box sets and coloured versions. All Asia albums, ( Brilliant album art covers ) All AC/DC albums All Rainbow albums All Mike Oldfield including original release Tubular Bells All Meatloaf albums and Jim Steinmans Bad for Good. All Yes Albums All Tangerine Dream albums All ELP albums with the incredible Works album Vangelis albums, Heaven and Hell my fav, used by Karl Sagan in his series Cosmos. My wife constantly whinges about how much space the whole lot take up. But its more than just junk, its 30 years of my life wrapped up in album covers and memories. My first ever bought record was "lonely this christmas" by Mud and i still have it, i think 1972 or something. My CD music collection is huge, re buying most of the vinyl records again. As for selling them on, never. Even now when i pull a sleeve out an old album, its like stepping back in time. Just to add, the ELP "Works" album had a photo of the group. The one of the Great Carl Palmer with his drum kit and holding his drum sticks inspired me to learn how to play the drums. Boring but true fact. Still a great photo of one of the greatest ever percussionists. Neil Peart of Rush has to be the best drummer i have ever seen. Breathtaking drummer, his stick movement was incredible. Can't believe you didn't put down John Coghlan of Status Quo as an inspiration mate
.... if you cut his head off he'd still be tapping away on cross handed drum beat on a kettle and set cymbal...he would carry on drumming between songs too - easy no change of beat (sorry to all the Quo boys out there...but they were a bit one beat dimensional at the time)....In the Army now changed all that!
And what about Ian Paice from Purple mun....never in the history of mankind has a guy as high on the herb been allowed to perform live as frequently as our Ian...I definately remember him having a swival chair taken off him as he kept swivelling away from the drum kit mid song.
Had to be Cozy for me though mate...

I am a vinyl-adict. I won't list them all, but my prized possessions are: - Pearl Jam - Binaural (try finding it anywhere) - Mars Volta - Frances The Mute (4lp set in red leather bound jacket) - The Modern Lovers - 1976 S/T (original pressing) - Slint - S/T (original pressing) - Violent Femmes - S/T (singed by Gordan Gano) - Mark Lanegan - Whiskey for the Holy Ghost (singed by the master Mark Lanegan) ... And loads of shit records too. I get mine from Diverse in Newport as it's a good place to waste your dinner time (and I work close-by, obviously). Nice to see plenty of vinyl-freaks on here. ------------- If you're losing your soul and you know it, then you've still got a soul left to lose. |

I went to Tangled Parrot in carmarthen the other day, only to find it had moved! Its now called The Parrot, bar and gig venue downstairs, the record shop upstairs. Managed to get a Swervedriver original EP on 12" and The Replacements - Hootenany (original). its much more organised with him now. reminded me alot of the old spillers, only with alot more vinyl.
I have never been to Diverse in Newport. any good?

Sweet. I love this record. On Twin-Tone I believe. I've got "Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take..." and "Let It Be", but really want "Tim". That's not only the finest Replacement records, but one of my favorite records of all time. Yeah, Diverse is cool - it's all vinyl with a tiny CD section - the reverse of Spillers, really. The guys working there are shit-hot too. Actually, one of the guys who works there set-up an offshoot that puts out records. Incredibly they've put out some epic stuff - Frank Black, Joan Baez, Chuck Prophet... The Replacecments are one of my fav bands. 'Tim' is a fine record, along with 'let it be' and more. The guy in the parrot told me had a fair few replacements stuff in the back, just didnt have room to put all vinyls out. he has loads in the back and replacements he was sure he had alot more. some guy brought in a load of 7" and LP's, not quite the entire releases by the replacements but close to it! going to go back there soon to check out the other stuff he has. got to check out diverse. looks awesome. a day in newport is on the cards this summer then! and no rugby! never thought id say that since the closure of TJ's!
