THREE SET FOR SEASON'S BOW AGAINST QUINS 10/10/2014 Biljon shuffles his squad ahead of Cup opener at St Peter Jersey will be seeking a winning start to their 2014/15 British & Irish Cup campaign when the tournament kicks off at St Peter this Saturday at 3pm. After narrow defeats by Doncaster and Rotherham in their two competitive matches thus far on home soil, the Islanders are aiming to deliver a win for their supporters against visitors Carmarthen Quins. Head Coach Harvey Biljon has shuffled his squad ahead of the game, with three players lined up for their first competitive action of the season. Fly-half Aaron Penberthy (pictured above) last played in the Championship match at Bedford in April, kicking 21 points to help his side to the win which ensured a last-day escape from relegation. Flanker Joe Buckle and lock Nick Campbell (pictured below) were also part of the Jersey squad that day. "Players like Aaron, Nick and Joe have had to wait for their opportunity, but they now have a real chance to perform and earn places in the squad, not just for cup games but also when the league resumes next month," Biljon said. "I've selected a few new combinations and will be looking forward to seeing how they work together in a match situation after some good preparation on the training paddock." Other players who have had limited game-time so far this season are part of the Jersey squad - these include wingers Ed Dawson and Grant Pointer, flanker - and captain for the day - Ben Maidment and replacement threequarters David Bishop and Tobias Hoskins. Lining up at scrum-half for Jersey is Ryan Glynn, who has been named this morning in the Greene King IPA Championship squad for the match against Canada on November 2nd. Carmarthen Quins are currently second in the Principality Premiership after kicking off their season with four straight wins. They earned a place in this season's B&I Cup after winning a three-club play-off for the 'Scarlets' region of West Wales that also involved Llandovery and Llanelli. As the highest-ranked of the three sides in last season's Principality Premiership, Quins received a bye to the final play-off match, in which they defeated Llandovery 37-13 at Carmarthen Park. The visiting squad has been significantly re-shaped through the insertion of a number of players who are part of the Scarlets' regional set-up. | Good Looking team good to see Quins using three feeder clubs league is more important for three clubs than using all players from one team have been told by Quins committee member that Leinster A game will be played in the park. |

Surprised there aren't more Quins players involved as they are second in the league and have beaten Llanelli and the Drovers already this season. Haydn Pugh and Josh Helps maybe, with Gavin Thomas on the wing. |

Any idea what day the Leinster A game will be played Hoppy ? with the Scarlets home to Leicester a fortnight tomorrow 7.45 playing the same weekend . It could well be a super Saturday ? With regards Josh Helps he as suffered a bad ligament injury,a couple of weeks back |

There shows that our pool of players is no where near as good as a lot of folk think. Jersey escaped relegation by the skin of their teeth last year. Combining a team from 3 clubs will have all sorts of coaching issues though. ------------- We all had Doctor's papers! |

Six teenagers starting Mick and only a couple of training sessions together the team would struggle against a fully pro team .Until a proper Regional team system his set up the Welsh teams are going to find it difficult . I listened to the game online ,the Quins were pushing on for a fourth try and a losing bonus point to make it 30-24 ,but Jersey intercepted and run in a try from there own 22 in the last few minutes |

Not sure about that Mick.I watched Aberavon beat Ulster A yesterday. I think that the Quins would be better off playing just themselves. The A concept is great if it were a regular thing. The team that played in Jersey hadnt played together before. ------------- West is Best (Fin gwybod) |

Agree. It has to be a regular thing. The 4 regions plus maybe even Ponty playing as the Vallleys region should play in the Aviva A league. That would broaden their experience and prepare them better for the set to regional level. It would also create space in the teams where these players are drawn from for more emerging talent to come through.
