That's a great retention. Ryan has a real physical edge, and at 22 will surely only improve over the next couple of years.

Excellent news - Elias is already breathing down Ken's neck, in the same way that Ken himself followed then overtook Smiler Rees - I can easily see Ryan taking over from Ken as Wales's first choice in a year or two, with Dee of the Dragons another contender.

If not at the end of this season, then definitely at the start of next season. I really believe he’s that good. Also, having spoken to Ken over the summer, his will is in no doubt to the Scarlets’ cause, however, his body and ability to recover may be.

Emyr is a top player, but has had bad luck with injuries (is he fit at the moment, BTW?)
I can see him as having a very important role to play during international periods, especially if both Ken and Ryan are called up, as will very likely happen.

Could very well see Emyr move on to make some money elsewhere.

But I watched a lot of him in the Principality Premiership and he looked out of his depth even at that level. As I said hopefully he's improved but it's really not a good signing IMO

This is a 3rd choice scrumhalf we are looking at. I can't see the point of spending more money than it is strictly necessary.
We can always call Mike Phillips if injury occurs.

More than a 3rd choice. Cawdor will be missing for chunks of the season. Jonny Evs our inured- which can happen next year too, we need a 9 that is first team ready. Not “3rd choice”. We need 1st 2nd choice 9 tome in and push our current 9s and be good enough when internationals are away.

Nah, sorry. Still 3rd choice and no worth a huge investment given our resources. Injuries can happen across the squad, and in other places we are even worse off. Number 8 to begin with. I don't expect to have such bad luck with our injuries during international call ups at scrumhalf next year. Or no more than in other positions.
Let's get our starting XV or 23 sorted and then we can talk about players who will have a chance come AI/6N time.

Right don't normally add fuel to a fire but there was a South Sea island family being shown around the barn on Boxing Day - they spent quite a bit of time in the balcony. I didn't see "the big guy" with Gyppo and put 2 and 2 together and came up with Fonotia as he was with the away team. Well an 8 would be excellent!!

I don't think it's particularly likely it's Taufua.
His Instagram page suggests he was in Fiji just before Xmas and is now back in NZ. It isn't credible that we'd fly him and his entire family all the way round the World for a few days just to watch the Ospreys game.
If it is a player then far more likely they are currently based far closer to Llanelli or were nearby on holiday.

Very good - Rawlins's continued absence from the match-day squad was baffling to me, unless he was injured - or was on the naughty step for some unreported reason.

If in the UK, it’s more likely that he would’ve been recognised, so that leads me towards a Top14 player. They played on Sat 23/12 and it’s perfectly feasible to fly in on 26/12 and leave the next morning to return to his club in time for training, subject to snow and location. If being rested for this weekend, it’d be even easier to fit in a visit to a prospective club.
Any thoughts?

I don't think it's particularly likely it's Taufua.
His Instagram page suggests he was in Fiji just before Xmas and is now back in NZ. It isn't credible that we'd fly him and his entire family all the way round the World for a few days just to watch the Ospreys game.
If it is a player then far more likely they are currently based far closer to Llanelli or were nearby on holiday. | Other than the holiday option, or someone on the injured list, it is most likely to be someone within the UK, or the Top14.
Or currently injured of course.

Could have been just a friend on a freebie come to watch the match. May not have been a rugby player at all let alone a number8.

I suppose one thing we can say about taufua is that he would have Jonny mac and Fonatia here, 2 mates from his crusaders days . Who knows , maybe they have got in his ear too about the way we play and would suit his style I'm sure . |
We have already signed our 8 I believe. and he's not an Islander. Taufua has played at 7 a lot for the Crusaders, and looks like a fantastic player, would love to have him on board.

No offence to Wells but I'd be very underwhelmed if he's the only 8 we get in.

Posted on the other thread, but saw Jon Daniels with a large south sea islander last night (was in one of the boxes) and I'm pretty sure I saw some of his family were shown around the barn prior to kick off |

Just looked at he broke his arm in tasman defeat to Canterbury in the mitre cup final on 30th October and coach said out for upto 12 weeks. Not in any demand for international honours atm so why wouldn't he want to join a top European sides with mates already there?

Makes sense if it's Wells as we need another Ausie to share house with Asquith. There's more to recruiting players than just ability.😁😁😁

You’d not think Wells was a South Sea Islander, unless you’d had 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺 so who is this guy?

I think we should hold our judgement of wells untill he has played for us. Looks a very good player from what ive seen of him and will slot in very nicely with our style of play.
I think the south sea islander is an outside back.
