I'd like to see how we compare to other teams in terms of the amount of long term injuries we get as it can't just be bad luck? Puzzled as to why we renewed patchells contract given the amount of time he has been injured before he joined us and since he joined us.

I can only imagine its because he hasnt played in so long, we need to manage his fitness properly to get the best out of him, he cant be thrown into a massive game like this having no rugby under his belt in so long, we really needed that pre season v drags last week to give him the game time
Im sure he will be in next week on the bench

I’m struggling to see apart from speed in the back row where they are stronger. We more than match their front row, second row I would say we are stronger. Our front five will be quicker around the park no doubt. We have the better ball carriers upfront for probably the first time ever against them. I would put the backs on a par, with us having more pace in the back three.

Where we may struggle is if they bring North onto first phase ball from a lineout as in running off 10 on an angle.

News on WGJ is....turns out he's not very good! Other than that, I think that is a big, tasty mobile pack, front row should scrummage well, Wyn, Josh and Daf off the bench....I'm happy. Foxy at 13 worries me. Should be a good game though. Home advantage, us by one score.

TBH I am not surprised WGJ isn't selected, he has been a bit of a disappointment since he signed. Have seen nothing of his scrummaging power whereas the likes of Sebastian & O'Connor have excelled.

Even though it seems Newcastle trump us for unavailables, I would still wager we are top 3 in europe for consistent levels of unavailability. Going into a fresh season with 14 unavailable is disappointing especially when we have had the longest summer break ever.

I think the starting 15 has a nice balance to it, possibly the most powerful Scarlets pack I've seen in years with 6 genuine ball carriers, 2 powerful props and a pair of livewire halfbacks to make best use of that behind them, and an exciting back 3- I don't rate Giles or North as that great defensively so hopefully there's joy to be had out wide.
I'm also in the minority here in thinking Jon Davies is a good selection, he knows he needs to play well to get to the world cup and he's a big game player- I think he'll turn it up to 11 for this one. Dan Jones is a very different style to Costelow and I like having that plan B on the bench too.

The Ospreys pack options are formidable. We need to match them and obtain some decent ball. I will take M.M’s “ one point win “ here. Let’s hope it’s a great advert for rugby and we sneak it . 🙏

Formidable but front five very immobile apart from Smith we must run them around park. Keep it away from tight totally negates Beards, Baldwin, AWJ and Francis game. Granted their back row lively but our second rows along with front row are very good around park.

I think our scrummage should go well, and the lineout could be superior.Morgan peerless at the break-down,and a possibility that Tipuric could feed off him there(depending on what kind of player he is now). Nice to see Jonny Williams at 12-his 40 mins there against Connacht at home season before last was best I'be seen from an inside centre for many years-be great if he replicates that.It appears that a shoe -horn the size of a mammoth's tusk would be required to prise Gatsby out of the starting line up,but I fear that Hawkins and others might find a gap without one. Looking forward,Scarlets to win this.

I seem to be "following Ressy around", after his Eddie Butler tribute, in a different part of this forum, and my following comment I must agree with him again regarding the O's pack. It's obvious they will try to squeeze us in the tight and attempt to enforce errors and penalties. Once it gets into the ref's head, its usually "curtains", and the trend is set. Anscombe will kick the points or put them in dangerous attacking positions.
We of course can negate this by holding our own in the set piece, but it will be a physical battle, I am sure. Someone else on here, has mentioned the Ospreys ploy of bringing North off his wing in to the 10 channel. They have employed this against us before, and its effective.
On the other side of the coin, if Tips and Morgan don't rule the contact area, we can play a more fluid game, which is where they (the O's) may struggle. It's the first game of the season, so all the above is "if's and buts" ATM, we will just have to see how it goes, and hopefully, we will do well! Fingers crossed!

I still think we either played the Dragons behind closed doors, or did some fairly tough alternative last weekend. Looking at certain players talk about "recovery" earlier this week on their socials.
I think we might edge it, TBH.
A lot depends AWJ and Tips. Will either of them be at the top of their game?

For this game I would have preferred to see Fifita at 6. He and Kalamafoni carrying together would have given the Ospreys lighter, smaller and more mobile back row a hard time defensively and maybe even reduced their ability to swarm around the breakdown and turnover our ball.

Scarlets pack not handling the Sprays very well, plus our tackling is optional, again

Remember we are short on game time. Ospreys played 3 friendliesI believe.

Ospreys laying in our rucks every single time, without being penalised.

Well that’s the clubs fault we should’ve organised more.

This was entirely the choice of Scarlets upper management. And it is showing.

Mcnichol making some poor decisions. And the try leading back to a poor line out. 3 out of 4 lost. Won our first scrum nice n quick n clean only for ball to be turned over in open play. Ospreys looking far far sharper. Costellow deserved the yellow you can't do that. Foxy offering little and North owned him, ripping ball. Boys need to battle hard now and if they can deny Ospreys points during this 10 min period, leading into half time then I think it's still all to play for in second half. But can't see that happening tbh.

It was out. But are we really going there before even the first half has finished? Lol. Anyway they've done well there. Can go into half time now without the average 7 points lost during a yellow card period.

Costellow back on. Huge effort to not leak any points in that 10 mins.

we have to be ready to fight at every single ruck, only in this way we can have some hope

Far too slow at the breakdown.

We have to get Cawdor off the pitch immediately, he’s beyond terrible.

Cawdor expects the ball in his hands without any thinking or work. Hardy to start second half.

We have 4 to 8 that are capable of running riot. But they have to be far quicker at the breakdown for that to happen. Meanwhile a clear penalty Tipuric on Mchnicol, yellow card, surely?

Jac Morgan being very cute at the breakdown.

That has to be yellow at least, McNichol took 2 steps after the kick

Not sure why we are trying to play the Ospreys at their own game at which they are much better

What’s the saying? Don’t look like scoring. Nevermind, as well as the ref there’s the called of game and lack of game time shiite excuse to use if we lose.

Scoreline flatters us. What our gameplay is, is anyones guess. First half we have been dire

| We did a ‘New Zealand’ when they were attacking fortunate not to concede or have another yellow. Well count that off against their yellow that should’ve been with that late reckless chargedown.

Lucky to not to get a second yellow from the 3 consecutive pens on our 5m line
