Rhys Ruddock eligible for Wales next season under IRB regulations. Would do a good job for Wales at 6. Playing great rugby with Leinster.

How can a 30 capped Irish international be eligible  to play for Wales?

Because under new irb regulations (primarily introduced to help the pacific islands) you can change allegiance once after you have been capped but you must be qualified for that country by birth or by birth of parents/grandparents and there has to be a 3 year gap between playing for each country. So for instance  Hadleigh becomes eligible to play for NZ this autumn but even if Blade isnt selected for Scotland again, he cant play for Wales but he can play for NZ after a 3 year gap.

Agreed. Totally ludicrous. Ruddock can play regional for the rest of his career.
