After the success of the recent broadening of options on here, unlike the national-side’s attack, how about a thread for music?
Who do you listen to?
What style do you enjoy?
For me, prog rock, metal, rock (of different strengths), synth, punk and all sorts.
Off you go.

Listening to music gives you so much.
I’d forgotten C&W. It’s got much to admire. Take Dolly. She’s got such a positive vibe, we all love to listen. In fact, one successful contemporary artist has a tack called WWDD or Double U W DD.
What Would Dolly Do?
Not a bad route to the straight and narrow.

Good topic. Back in the late 60's when I was a teenager I sang in a rock band with some of my Tirydail mates - great fun & made a few bob. Early years I was a great fan of Cream with Clapton's sublime guitar work with Ginger Baker on percussion & Jack Bruce on bass. I wondered at how much sound a three piece band could make.
Later years I liked Queen & U2 & now I am a big fan of Adele. Best live gigs attended Clapton at the Royal Albert Hall, Diana Ross at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas & Elton John at Canterbury Cricket Ground. Biggest wish list U2 anywhere.

Closest I got to playing an instrument and making an acceptable sound out of it was the recorder at school. Always envied those with more patience and dedication to get proper tunes out of their chosen piece.
Best gigs, now that’s something to think about.

Best gig performance wise Souxsie & the Banshees when Robert Smith was in the band. Enjoyment wise The Clash at the electric ballroom, but there have been many close seconds on both counts. The Who, Manics, The Damned and Joan Armatrading. I went to many a gig when I was young ears are completely buggered though (a bang on the head and too much live music will do that). Worst easy Black Flag '' The audience didn't understand us'' no Henry you were just horrible to have to hear. A mention too for Ian Brown for being so disappointing.

Only just had the pleasure of reading everything and every post on this thread. All very interesting. All I can say is that I agree with everything that's been said about MUSIC...it makes world go around, and where would we be without it? My dad played with Deke Leonard, Llanelli legend, who ironically later I would watch at the Patti pavilion in Swansea on Friday nights. Dad however was a jazz musician and one of his greatest legacies to me, apart from a passion for rugby, was a love of music. He took to me see duke Ellington and count basie, Oscar Peteson, Buddy Rich. We regularly visited Ronnie Scott's in London, where we see the likes of Jonny Dankworth and Cleo Lane.It was in Ronnie Scott 's I saw jazz loving Charlie Watts of the stones, and cheekily asked for his autograph, on a beermat. Because dad was a drummer, I introduced him to the work nof Bill Bruford and later Chis White of Yes and then..my love of Mahuvishnu Orchestra, led to dad and me seeking out Billy Cobham and his band. I also loved Santana , and my father was a huge admirer of Latin rhythms. We both listened to Ginger Baker as GPR mentioned, both with cream and later with airforce.. I have attended Reading Festival 7 /8 times and Glastonbury 5/6 times. Some of the people I have seen and loved live.. stevie wonder..4 times, Springsteen 5 times, stereophonics 6 times, stones 4 times..and my hero Jackson Browne 10 times, and many others. It's been a real spiralling love,...thanks to dad. My Mother however loved classical and consequently got me listening to Bach, Chopin, Motzart, and Debussy, which I still love. She had a great collection of LP's including Andy Williams, Jack Jones, Peggy Lee, and best of all Natt King Cole..lwho I just love! I still have all my original vinyl Lp's and hundreds of cd's... Music its been my life, together with art politics and rugby. I just LOVE IT!

I saw that show, I liked the Pretenders but was a little disappointed with them live, I'm sure Big Country were there as well (or it might have been when Bowe was in the stadium), they were great live.

I have seen eagles live too . Preferred after Joe Walsh joined to replace Bernie Leadon. I am also a fan of Joe and have most of his albums. Do'nt it was Jackson Browne, who wrote "Take it easy", with the late Glen Frey.
Bring it back local Status Quo played at the Glen in Llanelli, in the very early days, in fact I actually met Rossi and Parfitt.Other notable acts to play there were Mott the Hoople,Van Der Graf Generater and a young Elie Brooks with Viniger Joe.She ironically, played in the Selwyn Samuel Centre, 4/5 years ago.The Glen had one of the only revolving stages in Waoes, allowing the main band to set up before their support act had finished.

First band ever was Budgie , great band in support to Marrilionin Penyrheol ....caught the buzz in the concert ..During the next 2 years I managed to see Motorhead in Cardiff and Ozzy Osbourne in Cardiff during the Blizzard of Ozz Tour ...I believe it was one of the last concerts that Randy Rhodes played guitar in before his plane accident ...To hear Mr Crowley leading into Steal the Night has stayed with me ever since .. we watched the 3 degrees in Singapore which was ok , but the best band I've seen in a long time was whisbone Ash .To hear them live was like listening to the album ....There are loads of local bands that I listened to but probably most on here wouldn't know them , except Dewi Pws a Band ...Awesome Welsh music and Dewi is brilliant in-between the songs with his stories

I'm lucky enough to have seen him on home soil in Metlife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ in 2017. Although i'd love to have seen him in the 70s/80s. Never got to see him with Clarence or Danny either
I have a relatively extensive mp3 collection of 85 live dates, mainly the official releases not bootlegs. Missing a few if anyone else collects?

I remember the Zoo TV tour. Visually brilliant as well. Coldplay easiest the best live act I've seen. 3rd time this June. It's visually and musically amazing. Enjoyed the Stereophonics a few times and the Pet shop boys last year were good. Paul Mcartney a few years ago the best set list. It went on forever.

So many to choose from.
My uncle used to take me round the Rhondda in his old escort mk1 (bluelined) rally car blasting Sabbath for all to hear - one of my earliest memories. The other uncle used to play me Quo . Grew up buying LP's from Ian in the market - ACDC, Maiden, Deep Purple, Motorhead GnR and so on. Got to comp and my mates introduced me to Metallica, Megadeth, Anthrax, Obituary, Pantera, Slayer, RATM, Sepultura. Of course we were the grunge generation so Nirvana, AIC, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Blind Melon were all staples. Then later Korn, SOAD, Limp Bizkit, Fear Factory, Slipknot, QOTSA, Soulfly all took off. Been lucky to have seen many of those bands. Many highlights but perhaps the one I appreciated most was QOTSA with Dave Grohl on drums at Glastonbury 2002. Always wanted to see him drumming having been too young to have seen Nirvana play. Also managed to see the original Sabbath line up at Ozzfest 2001. Also got covered in red watching Slayer perform Reign in Blood . Band I wished I'd got to see - Pantera. God I loved them. Since getting older, grown in appreciation of other music such as Portishead, Prodigy, Public Enemy, Pixies, Clash, Stranglers and many more.
For all that, I was the bassist in a Llanelli punk band - Stickman. I wanted to play metal!

Saw Graham Gouldman in Buxton when I was up there the week before last. Not many turned out, but the snow was 6 inches deep around the town centre. He was very good, it was an accoustic evening. He's doing a short tour, it may have ended now.
Sadly I never saw Focus at their height. Saw them about 12 years ago at St David's Hall, without Jan Akkermnan of course. Have seen Akkerman live many times, and he really is an astounding guitarist.
For me it is a hard one to decide. Akkerman or Knopfler ? Both supreme musicians, and both play some wonderful melodies. Only saw DS once at the old National Stadium in 92 on the 'On every Street' tour. Since then I've seen Knopfler many a time, usually at the CIA. Wonderful memories.

Yes Deke was in and out of Man , it was a great combo...with Martin Ace , Terry Willians etc. Deke also formed Iceberg, another popular band. A great musician Deke and a legend of Llanelli music.

Great that someone's mentioned Focus. I remember seeing them live on the Whistke Test for the first time. It's correct to say that Ackerman was talented, with such a great technical ability. Missed.

Always fancied the idea of Close to the Edge as music at my funeral - hopefully long distant; need to plan ahead. At nearly 20 mins, might have to book two slots at the Crem.
I agree with you about Joe Walsh and, linking the two subjects, Life’s Been Good is in pole position for that occasion.

A remarkable album, close thing , between this and Fragile.
I was a Yes fan and still am. The line up of bruford, howe, anderson , squire, and wakeman, was the best. Seen them twice live..amazing !
I am also a big fan of Joe Walsh and have all his solo albums. Nothing against Bernie Leadon, but Eagles got even better when joined, brought a hard edge ,to contrast with all the soft melodic harmonies.
My all time hero, is of course JACKSON BROWNE. He wrote a song for his 1974 album "Late for the Sky"... called "FOR A DANCER" which was for a friend of his, (a dancer), who sadly had passed a way. The melody is haunting and the lyrics are so poignant, with the concept of death and our inability to process it. Its well worth a listen
