This table may be even more of a concern than the 6 nations itself....Wales lost to the italians, france smashed engand 42-7 at home and the scots were humiliated 82-7 at home to the irish This is the future unless we change it with some massive improvements ------------- ROYMOND MUNTER MBE (FOR SERVICES TO THE COMBOVER) |

| Pathway needs an overhaul. Serious questions need to be asked of the WRU and how they prepare boys before they get anywhere near RAG age. England start talent id for academies at 12 and France at 13. They have years then to prepare them for pro rugby. As you can see the boys are 18/19 years old and pro standard players. The same old people will blame academies but as you can see from Italy, Ireland, England and France it's the academies who produce the elite not the grassroots. It's more academy rugby they need not moving in the other direction and back to 'grassroots'. Huw Davies the 20s Number 8 started at Sale when he was 12. The WRU need to organise more meaningful districts rugby and pressurised rugby by way of national competitions from the age of 12 upwards and at every age group, not pandering to participation numbers and 'enjoyment'. There's plenty of talent in Wales but we foster complacency by shying away from competing and pushing the talent as far as it goes. |

Yes we do but it is only 8 games. My boy was in the Saints PDG and they have a full league programme, plus college plus the training demands of both teams. A big demand on developing bodies with lots of injuries with both sides of the coin wanting their piece of the player The Welsh regional model is loosely based on the New Zealand pro game system where college league rugby is Sept to December, then regional rugby then age grade this way there isn't the fight over player time and fatigue plus injuries are lower. |

| And the fact that players who are in the pathway aren't allowed to play for their club of origin in their youth teams. They're not allowed to play football either if they play for a club. |

| I think it's only the contracted academy players that can be stopped from playing club rugby as the region would control their registration, if they're attached academy players or just in the squad then the clubs have their registrations, although you'd imagine any youngster who the region suggests they shouldn't play too much for their club would listen to the region not to harm their future chances or damage relationships. |

The regions put mandatory gym sessions or other such sessions at the time when they could be playing for their clubs. It's not just the contracted ones, it applies to all as far as I know. For me, the players could learn a lot playing for their local side which would benefit them in the long run.

Yeah they have sessions on a sat morning generally which isn't ideal but players can still play for their clubs in the afternoon if they want, it just puts players in very awkward positions which isn't fair on them. Completely agree the focus should be on playing more.

My boy plays U16 football & his team have 2 players in the U16s Scarlets academy players in the squad. Once they were in the squad they weren't allowed to play anymore, one of the boys had a proper row with his Mum because he wanted to play - led him to tell his mother where to go so to speak

Interestingly, Leinster don't subscribe to youngsters playing a lot of games but prefer gym and skills work ..seems to work for them
