Regardless of the eventual outcome of this latest calamity surrounding the BBC does it not look as if Mr Davie is somewhat out of his depth in the position he finds himself. Firm decisive leadership does not seem to be his forte.

Food for thought.

Re Gareth's point, it does seem that the BBC needs to carefully look at its internal reporting processes.

The other issue that I have is if the Sun believed that the story was so big, why didn't they immediately take it to the Police rather than print a news story ?

This latest debacle to hit the BBC gives a large section of Tory politicians another opportunity to look at scrapping the TV license again.  They love to bash the BBC at every opportunity or threaten them if they paint the party or certain politicians in a bad light.
They really need to get their act together or they will go the same way as many publicly funded organisations under the Tory government/s.

With regard to scrapping the license fee it’s not bothered me one way or another until the last few years. The BBC hasn’t moved on and certainly not kept up with the competition. I have two u18’s who do not only not watch BBC they don’t watch any terrestrial TV and neither do their friends. I myself watch 80% of non terrestrial TV. With the BBC as it is the programming is not great I would welcome scrapping the licence and like the other TV options pay for a subscription should I wish to watch it listen to the BBC

I can agree totally , beside rugby I never watch BBC or itv ..There are so many better TV genres on other sources , news has become so selective depending on who is running the corporation and light entertainment is totally unwatchable.....Information regarding world events are easily accessible from unbiased sources , which allows the individual to make their own minds up , not having a political viewpoint forced apon the individual....And sport (rugby) is a far better package when presented by a competent outlet like  supersports ....The analysis of the game is at a a far different level compared to the old boys network we see back home .

BBC are out of step with the times on many levels.

I’m not sure this thread should be about them though.

The Sun have issues.

Huw has spoken out many times about his mental health issues, most recently in an interview with Alastair Campbell in 2022.

Whilst it is shocking to hear of these allegations, can any one of us say how we would behave were we to experience a breakdown ? Don't forget that some commit suicide, some have committed murder. A mental breakdown is clearly a serious matter.

I just hope that Huw now gets the treatment, and the privacy, to help him get over this latest episode.

I wish him and his family well.

How many of the common folk get private help when they need it totally agree with you about some commit suicide but how often is that down to not getting access to help because they can't afford help totally agree with wish in his family well.

Murdoch is a complete scumbag. At this point in time no criminal act has taken place. Let's not be too hasty in laying in to someone whois in a dark place.

I've no idea where he's getting his treatment, he may be in an NHS hospital.

Access to mental health services is a wider question that has consistently been in the news of late. NHS provides care to all, irrespective of income level, which is as it should be.

My sympathy is for the alleged victims
I hope those young men get all the help they need
I also empathise with his wife , goodness me what she's going through...especially as the total failure of BBC bosses meant it fell on her to make this statement

The Sun has form here. They negatively reported on Caroline Flack, and apparently as soon as she committed suicide they very quickly deleted negative comments about her.

This was a woman who had the money for private treatment but never got it.

I don't buy the Sun, and never would now.

But the Met said that there was no evidence of any criminal activity, so the BBC were right not to name him.

Hopefully no criminality will arise in the ongoing story

Jeremy Vine is an obnoxious media whore. Always striving to be heard. BBC were under no obligation in playing name and shame.

I hope things get sorted soon and hopefully the sun gets to the point when it doesn't exist , just like the news of the world ... Murdoch is  total scum ..fox news supported lies in North America ..and now the sun ...someone should hold his head under water for at least 15 minutes ...the world would be a better placev
