Subject: Reynolds to buy into welsh fire?

The ECB have already turned down a  billion pound offer from lalit modi for the hundred franchise. The ECB dont like his reputation and want to keep control.

Now it seems ryan reynolds and mcellheny have contacted glamorgan about buying into welsh fire. Theres a limit of 49% on offer so the counties and ecb keep majority ownership

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cp8e7lpp709o" rel="nofollow - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cp8e7lpp709o

The glazers too have expressed an interest in the tournament and already own a t20 team in the middle east

https://talksport.com/sport/1977472/ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney-wrexham-the-glazers-the-hundred/" rel="nofollow - https://talksport.com/sport/1977472/ryan-reynolds-rob-mcelhenney-wrexham-the-glazers-the-hundred/

Ive absolutely no idea why they simply couldnt do all this with the t20 ? The hundred should surely be the 120 ? Theres plenty of time and space to play the mens and womens game back to back and chuck in the razzmattazz , djs , play in pyjamas etc

But if is here to stay then good luck to them raising funds for struggling county sides and bringing in new fans
My biggest beef is 1) id rather just have the t20 and 2) its seriously disrupting the cricket calendar. and 3) seems to devalue the other tournaments imo

On the upside having reynolds and co involved could certainly bring some glitz and glamour and no doubt hed unearth out all kinds of new fans online and in persons and lucrative sponsors etc

Do they fancy a rugby team?

They took Wrexham on partly because of it's history...

Someone should post it on Facebook - rugby club with a proud Welsh history, play in red, and even played some home matches at the race course ground (when covering North Wales) need the support (financial of course) and expertise of entertainment royalty to boost their profile and to return them to the top table of European rugby.

Let’s face it, it would take a much smaller amount of money to return us to the top of the European pile than it has probably cost them already to get Wrexham into the 3rd tier of the football league.

The nearest thing I do to social media is scarletfever.org, so I appreciate I am no help at all, but I’m sure, from what I have seen of them, that Ryan and Rob would love us and lots of West Walians like me follow Glamorgan too. Our history is similar in importance to Wrexham’s in terms of Welsh sport. I agree with the last post, can anyone more computer literate than me drop some hints to R&R that we’d love to see them in PYS?

You should post more often SVD.
Like me the only social media is SF, and your a Glammy fan.

I would welcome R&R investment in wesh fire,  maybe the razzmataz may suit them. I not a 100 fan, and rarely watch, but realise others like it, and its an income generator for the game. GLAM have a 51% holding in Welsh fire,
and could benefit  from  their  success.
ATM, they are total crap, with the new coach no improvement on Maynard..
Need can experienced  international  opening bat abd seam bowlers.
Forget Labuschange...here one min and gone the best.
Big changes needed,  abd consequently investment  welcome

The history and heritage and the fans is what first attracted them to wrexham, the 3rd oldest club in the world and the oldest club ground in world football. Record 24 times welsh champions and an fa trophy too too...Their fans though are their greatest asset, theyre incredible.

Their biggest problem will be to get the ground expanded from the current 13,300
The endless battles over development with the council over sewers, water, road access etc
Plus the applications for relvant funding and the collapse of construction companies like buckingham who were meant to do the KOP has all added to the delays.

Scarlets meanwhile if they want a part of the hollywood pie we need to do a damn sight more to attract their attention

we do at least have a complete stadium and barn etc which is all top class
All we need now is some events and a winning side
The news the WRU found millions down the back of their sofa is massive
We will see increased funding to £6/6.5 million from 2025

BUT we need to improve massively in all areas

We have a very weak presence on social media , our website is hardly ever updated.
The main events page on scarlets at the moment say, our next event is january 2024 llanelli rfc v llandovery?

We need regular event inside the stadium and also the barn
Theres almost unlimited posibilities- business conferences, exhibitions, more bingo lingo, sports events from darts to pool to snooker to motorbikes, more football, wales u20s rugby, rugby sevens events,  fairground events and all kinds of concerts like ffos las who have events all the time with big crowds in a frankly far less salubrious environment...etc

The loss of the rfc side is a huge 1 imo as were now losing these youngsters to village clubs and other sports. I used to enjoy going down to watch the up and comer in the rfc side...going all the way back to mike phillips lee byrne and many more. Now these kids are paid big boot money in village clubs but are throwing their long term professional prospects down the drain

scarlets need some good news some good performances some new exciting events to stimulate more interest and revenue...Heck get a few new tunes on the tiktok get cochyn to have a punch up with ossie the osprey and dewi the dragon...whatever it takes gets some hustle behind the muscle

Ryan reynolds got sucked into the cricket underworld by his co star hugh jackman....The short form of cricket is very lucrative and perfct for massive tv audiences and adverts between overs etc But its all about passion that attracts such investors. We got plenty of passion on the terraces, but we need far more in the boardroom

I think ultimately it may take a british and irish league to really change things. With a few bankrupt english clubs already, the premiership needs bigger revenues that may be a factor in them accepting us into the fold. This is currently under discussing again in England.

https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/premiership-rugby-urc-merger-british-irish-league-cvc/" rel="nofollow - https://www.sportspromedia.com/news/premiership-rugby-urc-merger-british-irish-league-cvc/

"However, according to The Telegraph, the British and Irish league option attracted the most interest, due to it being deemed to have the greatest commercial value. Private equity firm CVC Capital Partners, which holds stakes in Premiership Rugby and the URC, is said to be open to the idea"

2 division british league. the welsh irish scots teams cannot get relegeated below division 2 but the english clubs would allow 1 up and 1 down from division 2 to allow their club structure to service intact

I would expect to see 10,000+ every week if we were in such a league and more tv revenues, sponsorship, financial backers. The irish crowds would be massive leinster would probably play mostly at landsdown road.

I would love the league to happen, I see the Scots being up for it and it would also support the rugby up in Sale and Newcastle (not being the outer reaches) and give their fans some closer away games.
I do think the thorn will be the Irish and their governing body. TBF they have made a very good model and would probably be reticent to release any control.
However I think the time is good , by the time the possible set up happened the extra funding from the mysterious sofa wallet will help improve our squads certainly to a good competitive level, and if the Irish want to stand alone then so be it.

I'd go for a British League, Wales England & Scotland. If the Irish want in, then they can join but on our terms. You'd have 16 teams in it without the Irish.

2 Conferences of 8, could have 4 pools home and away for the cup. 20 games per season if you don’t make the knock outs.

I think it is the sport rather than particular teams that draw in these investors, would need them both to decide to invest in rugby (which would be a hard sell), if they were to decide on that I think getting them onboard with Scarlets would be easy in comparison

I think a british / british irish league would be a game changer....it wouldnt just bring the moola it would bring the magic...the snap crackle and pop of the old derbies the tribalries ....its not something you can quite quantify..Those identities  the history , heritage , rivalries counts for a heck of a lot with the fans...Look at football , beckham was at the birmingham v wrexham game midweek with tom brady and he said its the best atmosphere hes felt in years...for him to say that counts a lot when you consider hes absolutely everywhere at the same time lol world cup finals wimbledons champions leagues etc.........It was a mere club game between 2 ancient clubs with long histories and rivalries scrapping for promotion ...and fans that know all the words...even to the rude songs lol

Imagine scarlets possible fixture list was something like......

v bath
v cardiff
v harlequins
v northampton
v bristol
v dragons
v gloucester
v sale
v leicester
v wasps
v ospreys
v saracens
v exeter

mouth watering Big smile I wouldnt expect any crowds below 10k

Why play it so late and why trent bridge not lords

If rained off today glamorgan the trophy? Yipee

This seems like a knock on effect of prioritising the hundred Shocked

D yn fawr Scarletpimp (sorry for delay in responding). I would post more, but my views might be too old fashioned about cricket to post regularly and I’ll be bound to annoy the youngsters! Anyway, got to start off by saying, ‘Da iawn Morgannwg heddiw!’, but I agree with Roy Munster, shambles, why not Lords and why late September? Re.my comment about being old fashioned, I really only like five day tests, they have tried all the gimmicks like The Hundred, but nothing better than an Ashes series - when I retired my first thought was, ‘Diolch byth, now I can stay up all night. I honestly do not understand why people find cricket boring.

Thanks ROY!

Yes delighted for Glam , shame a lot of people could not see a ball bowled, as its on Sky.
Have seen some of the games in the earlier rounds, in Cardiff and Neath, and I would have made the trip to Nottingham on the weekend, except we were due to be in  Italy for Benneton v Scarlets.
Sadly ,we didn't go there either, as Mrs Pimp and myself have contracted COVID, and still not completely shaken it off Ouch !

Unfortunately , as great as a trophy is, one cannot airbrush an awful season , of mediocre 20/20, and some recent shocking championship performances.
In this trophy winning,  competition, Glammy have more or less full strength, while other teams have been depleted by the "100".Somerset, only had 5 players who featured in the 20/20 final against Gloucestershire ( which they lost).

There is need to recruit a specialist batting coach for 2025, and recruitment surely should focus on a genuine opening batsman and an overseas pace/seam bowler of quality.
Manus L, a waste of time, only available fleetingly

Unfortunately couldn’t make the final either but had the pleasure of watching Glamorgan destroy Surrey in the group stages at the Oval which came not long after watching a convincing win over Kent in the T20 - quite good to have local bragging rights for once.
