Watching build up to bath and la rochelle.....and this red alert and noise came through my mobile.

Jumped out of my skin tbh, but fair play woke me up to this bloody storm Darragh with the text message.

Some stores are closed tomorrow morning until it passes.

Well done Government

And be safe all.

I’m trying to get my daughter in law not to go to work in Trostre retail park for 8.30am. The company not having it….who the hell is going to go shopping at that time tomorrow beats me.

M&S have already said there not opening.....until 12.00 to protect shoppers and staff.

Insanity going out with trees already snapped to shreds in Ireland.  Stay home.

Whatever the circumstances,  hope everyone remains  safe, until  this passes.
I am thankful  I am not travelling,  and my thoughts are those who have to.
It's at times like these we must be thankful for the dedication and expertise of our wonderful  emergency  services.

We were en route to an old ex Round Table do in Mumbles when the alarm kicked off on my phone as strong an impact as a burglar alarm. I also found out it had all went off in the group event with about 10 phones kicking off … well we now know it works! Having got home it’s windier on the Carmarthen Bay side for sure than Swansea Bay which is more sheltered. We are a tough bunch this side of the Loughor 😉 just praying no overnight house or garden damage 🙏🙏🙏

Lost 25-30 tiles off my roof so far.

It’s not something I’ve experienced before here.

Anyone with a lick of sense wouldn’t be doing anything ‘non-essential’ this morning.

Not everyone has the robust level of common sense and self-reliance that you have.

In particular, it’s something for those less able to cope with adversity.

For me, I think it’s a good idea. Think of all those folk glued to their phones rather than what’s happening in their three dimensional area. It’s the only way to communicate with them effectively.

Yes Steve, your correct there.
It's a sad reflection on the society we are now living in , with the younger generation ( and even a few older ones) totally obsessed with their phones.
Complete  nonsense  !Confused

Anyway,  hope all is well with our regular forum members, with safety  and minimum  damage the priority.  Here in this part of Llanelli,  we have got away light thankfully. From what I can see( and I haven't  been out yet, only a few pots blown over
It's maybe fortunate that GPR and other Scarlets  fans heading for Bayonne , flew out when they did.

Still gusting like crazy here I've seen glasshouses flying in the air, our fence both sides barely hanging on. It's bloody dangerous out there. Heavy bins flying and gawd help trees .

90mph winds are lethal, we ignore because of human arrogance the power of nature.

Hope your OK up there.

Hope everyone's ok. This is worse than 30 years ago or is it just because storms are named now? I don't remember a "storm season" when I was growing up but I possibly wouldn't have noticed if there was one.

I don't think there's hard evidence to suggest storms i.e. strong winds have necessarily got worse in the UK over the past 30 years but things are definitely getting wetter. This I believe is due to the air being warmer more often and holding more water which in turn falls as rain more often.  We can expect more landslides as well.

Thanks for listening to my Tedd Talk.

Rang the 101 line after coming across a fallen tree....spent 15 minutes waiting on the line...then answered half a dozen questions on my date of birth , address , email address , mobile , described the tree several times etc before she took down the report? has it over occured to them that taking peoples personal details and the delays when reporting an emergency is more likely to discourage people from ringing in future?
apparently there is an emergency number for fallen trees

Thanks for listening to my Tedd Talk.

We have had 12 storms , varying in intensity, since the start of 2023.
Apparently  this volatile  weather is tied up with the jet stream, which in itself is becoming  unpredictable.
Global warming is feeding the problem , hence milder and wetter cimate.
Sadly despite warm words,  major economies are doing little to arrest the situation.

It wastes criticial time in a otential life and death situation
You also need to repeat every line several times its all very strange
Ive done it in the past and theyve rung me back several hours later to ask me all the same questions?
They pass it to the council anyways apparently

Sorry to hear that news Will.
We got away with it comparatively  lightly in Llanelli.
The majority  if the town is low lying, plus its geographical
location,  up the Burry estuary does offer some protection.
We rarely get bad snow here,  for the same  reason, even " beast from the east", left the town only moderately  affected.
Not a huge number  of trees , plus no major river running through  the town
( like Pontypridd), is another factor to negate storm conditions.
My heart goes out to those badly  affected

On Sunday, a friend of ours out to the west of Shrewsbury, and north of the Welshpool road, said she’d not seen it running so fast in a long time. On her walks, it often floods the fields as far as you can see and occasionally cuts off the B road.

it is running very fast and will peak tomorrow evening apparently as it runs down from North Wales and fortunately no rain envisaged tomorrow . The power of nature is certainly immense!

Went to mumbles today ...one of the biggest trees was downed. The size of the tree was immense over 100 years old, the root system was huge and it took out the tree next to it and landed on the main road.

Extremely sad.
