I know you would probably prefer not to think about this, any more than the Labour politicians who duck the idea of rejoining the customs arrangements (out of cowardice), but:

Five years after Brexit, the proportion of Brits who think it was right to leave the EU is at its lowest-ever point since the referendum.

Just three in 10 Britons (30 per cent) say that it was right for the UK to vote to leave the EU, compared to 55 per cent who say it was wrong, a new YouGov poll has shown.

This is the lowest proportion of the public saying that Britain was right to vote to leave since the pollster began asking this question in the aftermath of the referendum.

And for why? You may find some reasons here:

What a mess!

And the same poll also shows that 62% think Brexit has been "more of a failure" compared to 11% who think it has been "more of a success" (20% "neither", 8% "don't know). Meaning a third of those who thought it right for the UK to vote to leave the EU (the 30% you state above) consider it to have been a success.

I presume that third includes those that were able to move their businesses to the EU to beat the competition (Rees-Mogg), secure EU passports for their family for freedom of movement (Farage), or use Brexit to get a tax-payer funded position doing nothing ("Lord" Frost), or get a generous tax-payer funded pension despite being a lying incompetent con artist (Johnson).*

How long are my fellow fevers going to keep re-visiting this issue.? Its gone - 5 years have passed. Most of the opportunities presented by Brexit were wasted by bad governance. For instance why couldn't the Tory cabinet take the same line as Starmer does today & attempt closer ties with our European neighbours.

Remainers will always try to point to some deterioration or other to prove their points ignoring the stark reality that a Worldwide pandemic hit within months of Brexit & took the ruling party's eyes off the prize along with Putin's war in Ukraine. They ignore the fact that EU countries are hardly setting the World alight with slow growth & inflationary pressures just like the UK.

How far back do we wish to go - lets do a Trump and find something like the Panama Canal to reclaim. For instance would we have allowed Russia to "colonise" Eastern Europe after World War II if we had had the benefit of hindsight??????

Well, if you look at other threads going back in time, there’s no time limit on recalling how things used to be, especially if it was better in the eyes and mind of the poster. Big smile

While competent governance is lacking, the more people will hark back.
