Decent looking team. Benetton have 10 foreign players starting and a couple released from the Italian squad so will be no pushover. Hopefully our pack will be able to get the edge on theirs and provide some decent possession for Carwyn Leggatt-Jones.

Probably rotated with Hepburn, allowing Morse to remain on the bench to pick up some minutes.

My gut is that's a strong running, physical Benetton team but lacks finesse and craft.

The Scarlets side looks pretty strong considering, especially in the pack. I'm quite pleased.

Let's hope CLJ can perform. The press have built him up so much, outside of this protected forum, the fans are more fickle and less empathetic to underperformance

A little disappointed not to see Archie on the team sheet. It may that they are using the two more experienced SH’s to protect CLJ. Understandable if that’s the case.

Wishing CLJ all the best on his first start in the URC.

Best wishes also to all our travelling supporters. For those travelling for the first time, I hope you enjoy Treviso. It really is a lovely city.

Exciting young side looking forward to seeing how they get on. A big back row and a good forward bench.
Cmon Scarlets we can do this.

Clever selection from Nigel. Two older heads at scrum half to help inexperienced 10's. I appreciate McBryde is 29 but has very little URC experience.

Not their A team but plenty of talent.

I wish  CLJ well on his first start.
This Benetton team though is still strong ,with many familiar names.
What I would say therefore, is the focus shouldn't .on CLJ but instead the WHOLE team  functioning as a unit, being disciplined and ensuring we play with ambition and clarity.
We ( the fans) got excited after beating
Glasgow and Cardiff, and look what happened after that( Ospreys & Dragons).
I am anticipating a realm tough game on Friday for sure, as Bennetton have a greater budget and consequently a squad of greater depth than us( not difficult)

Hope Heburn and Archer, as starters, can maintain scrum parity and keep us penalty free at the beginning. With Thomas and Ball entering the fray off the bench then we are in with a chance.

Archer scrummaged very well indeed against Ulster.  We will miss Ryan though, in the scrum and also his carrying. van de Merwe has been brilliant for us but it seems to me that he hasn't quite been at his very best of late.  Still we are very lucky to have a S African cap in our ranks during this 6 nations.  At the beginning of the season we missed Ryan and Marnus hugely, which partly accounted for our losses .
I agree that Ball and Thomas are best placed on the bench to shore things up when Harry Thomas comes on.

Archer Holtz has impressed  with his scrummaging.  One has to bear in mind the lad was rusty when he joined us, with not many starts.
He began to play  well,  then suffered a serious debilitating illness.
Recently,  and unluckily injured  again,  but now back, and showed again against Ulster  that he is a valuable asset,  particularly  in the long term.
I met him  at the Crys 16 " meet the players" evening, shortly after he arrived and was amazed 9how big he is.
Also a typical Aussie, very chilled, and good company LOL

Apparently pre planned nige had two teams lined up for this fortnight. I was sitting behind players and a lot of this weeks squad warmed up with last weeks and then Sat it out.

Archie will get his time, he’s had a decent little run, give him a breather for a week, and let CLJ have an experienced head with him. Two new 10s to the team. Not the time to have a new 9 as well.

We're fielding a very quick and evasive back three, I'm hoping for some loose kicking from Benetton and our lot to rip the defence apart. Obviously they will also have to front up defensively as well!!
Come on bois.

No more 83 minute win, just a nice steady win would be brilliant.

Good luck.
Everyone is pinning their hopes on this young lad, but its on the others to make it as easy as possible to showcase his talents. Legendary scrum half, international centres, experienced second rows. Back row and wingers time to put your hands up and state your case why you should start when the internationals get back.

Decent looking team- especially considering 9/10 wales call ups and the injury list too. It does expose our lack of 7’s though, I thought Taylor was a 6 tbh, meaning without Capn Josh we only have Davis as cover?  Hopefully we overpower them and it doesn’t matter. Still, someone tell Cubby to find us the next…erm…Cubby?

Excellent news. Feels like we have quite a few talents on the horizon, hopefully we bed them in gently over the next few years.  Although talking 10’s, wasn’t dinky 18 when he got a run of starts in the first team? Or was he 20…

Should have been a scrum penalty against the head to scarlets, but Brace is watching BBC News or something instead of the scrum in front of him. Benetton allowed to play on and get a pen, which they miss the attempt at

Wholesale changes but still stupid penalties.

Posted By: Lincscarlet

Softest pen ever given allows Benetton to level the scores. Marnus wins the turnover, is then dragged off feet and spills it. Rather than award a knock on advantage or scrum to Benetton he penalised marnus…..

Then scarlets destroy the Benetton scrum on the restart but brace call it pen Benetton for not driving straight

My problem with refs exemplified there.

Inconsistent interpretation.

We go forward at scrum time, they pop up. Ref calls ball away (barely).

The other game, we’re under pressure but get the ball out, goes a couple of passes and then the ref calls penalty to them.

Posted By: dantheman

Too many errors.

Same with Ulster last week, these teams just don't make mistakes, we are constantly under pressure in our half because their ball retention is so good.

Inevitably we concede.

Ref got the pen on halfway totally wrong, when Hepburn killed their TH. All the pressure came from that.

The mail goes into touch, they pop the ball back. Runner has his knee down twice and he calls maul and they make ground.

I'm not sure why everyone is complaining about the ref. Scarlets have gone back to the style that has lost so many games. I don't see where the improvements are

Posted By: Lincscarlet

The entire 16 man maul was off the pitch, Brace channels his best stevie wonder impression and allows play on….

Tackler doesn’t release before that

Benetton player slides shoulder I head on Cawdor (on the floor) doesn’t anything wrong with it.

Any other game we would have 6 scrum pens not just 1

I knew we were screwed as soon as I saw he was officiating

The scrum certainly isn't from the lower levels. The backs, when they get the ball are actually doing something.

Brace has been dreadful and inconsistent. But that was a poor half from us. A lot of mistakes from the youngsters which allowed them far too much territory to build pressure. Scrum is well on top so how it’s 1vs1 in the pen count is anyone’s guess

Posted By: aber-fan

Some very dodgy reffing before their try.

Having said that, we should have had one just before the break - pity the boys didn't finish off those mauls.

Sadly our problems started when CLJ kicked the restart out on the full. We conceded ground and then that gave them some momentum.

Currently 8 pens against 4 for. To be fair some have been a little dodgy.

We have missed chances, Gareth knocked on carelessly after Fletcher's run. He was a little too rushed, trying to find his man before he had the ball in his hands.

Did feel our maul was going over the line mind.

And we go forward in the scrum, their loosehead buckles and the scrum wheels - Scarlets penalised.

Same as one of the line outs just now. Sam Lousi goes up for ball and gets hit from behind by a Benneton whilst still in the air and drops the ball - play on .......

Our line out has been good, but the very one we needed we lost.

He doesn't seem to like Taylor on the jackal.

We must get the first score second half, and then exit efficiently.

The ref is rewriting the laws as he goes along, specifically:

1. it's OK to tackle players on the ground - "I'll just call it a contest for the ball" - even when one of them is holding the ball, and the other isn't (twice)

2. It's OK to get tackled, get up and run on without releasing the ball.

3. Scrum reffing: "No clue, so one to this side, then one to that side".

And a few more I've forgotten.

Not that Scarlets haven't contributed by making far to many mistakes, but still...

Great start. Fletcher Anderson has been so key to our team this season. Great player.

Fletcher Anderson is just something else. That scrum shows how much we’re on top need to go after them there.

Is it 60 minutes when result stands if game called off?

What he does well, he does very well. Would love him to tidy up his restarts and discipline a little. Is this what it feels like to have a proper 8?
