Encouraging interview by Nigel, fully engaged in next season's planning, especially recruitment, and ball carriers in the pack. Also back room appointments as well. Apparently news coming soon. And he hasn't decided his own future yet.

He speaks of 44-45 player squads. Right now we are low to mid 30s in the senior squad. Huge recruitment and retention needed.

Tonight , Nigel Davies and several players were appearing at the Crys 16 " Meet the Players " Evening at Parc. In the past , I have thoroughly enjoyed this occasion. Last year my friend and I were able to meet Archer Holtz., who proved both funny and engaging. Several funny stories about James Slipper( who holds the record number of caps for Australian front row forwards). Archer has huge potential, and despite being unlucky vwith injury and serious debilitating illness, has played well. Fletcher Anderson and Jake Ball were two,of the names appear tonight.
It is Nigel Davies however who I would have been most interested in listening to. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make it this evening, so if anyone who did attend is able to let us know how it went , and in particular what Nigel said.. I would be extremely grateful DIOLCH

Couldn’t make the meet the players either, sadly.
I wonder how we’re going to afford 40+ senior players when we couldn’t afford them this year?
I wonder how we can offer job security when we couldn’t do it for Marnus?
Intriguing

Yes, I'm scratching my head...
I'm also not a fan of the approach of 'We've had some really good news this week...but can't tell you about it'...
or
'I've got a budget for next season and I'm working to it, but don't know if I'm going to be around'.
It's just the sceptic in me that reads these comments as just plain unnecessary really.

Could it be Ospreys players jumping to us knowing their ship has sunk? Bois wishing to stay local, bargain prices. Only thing I can think of, unless about to announce major investor at season end.

I would like to have a squad of 40 players however we are still on £4.5m per season so i would imagine a lot of these players will be picked up from the SRC teams and the quality would be low and they would be holding tackling bags for most of the season. I can't see us making any significant signings for next year because as it stands we go out of business at the end of next season, no decent player will want a 1 year contract. I'm sceptical about us even surviving atm let alone signing players.

the Nige interview is fairly damning of the club's set up the last few years, as I read it. If I put on my 'read between the lines x-ray goggles' he seems to be saying what many of us have been thinking. The same problem we've had for years though is how do you 'sell' scarlets to top coaches and players etc with the current uncertainty? Be interesting to see who he can attract

To think that we have a highly intelligent Welshman as our DoR, someone with 40plus years experience of professional rugby as player and coach, who has come in since January and has made some fundamental changes to our coaching setup and the way that we approach games, yet the WRU pick an ex England fitness coach (who has no playing experience and had been working outside of rugby for nearly 20 years) as the DoR for the whole of Welsh rugby. This just sums up the WRUs abysmal track record in appointing the wrong people in the wrong roles at the wrong time. I’m so glad that Nigel agreed to come back in January as our interim DoR but can’t help but think that Welsh rugby could have benefited from his vast rugby knowledge had he applied for / or been successful in getting the WRU DoR position instead of dastardly Dave.

I think the whole thinking behind it was having someone with no affiliation whatsoever with Welsh rugby. Understandable imo.

Mmmmm what changes on the field? Training? ND has been out of rugby for a long long time, are we seeing it on the field? What am I missing, last time I looked we were last but 1, any other sport DP would of long gone,ND isn't the first man to prop him up but Ill say it again what's changed?
Personally I cant see any changes at all,and nothing but nothing will change until DP walks, and that doesn't look like any time soon unfortunately.

And Reddin had no experience of Olympics before driving UK to its biggest medal haul in 2012 and he had no experience of football before helping Southgate massively improve England's international performances.
He just doesn't or can't communicate in an emotional way.

Surely to get the same money as Dragons next season, Scarlets and Ospreys would have to sign up to PRA25, which is no longer available. My earlier question remains, are the extra squad players Nigel is talking about, being paid for from monies awarded in the recent court case against WRU? Even if the award is at the lower end of the £2M to £12M range expected, that would fund a significant increase in squad depth.

Surely the WRU loan to the Scarlets is based on an agreed payment schedule. Over half of the money, the CLBILS loan, we know is on a 20 year payback. Whilst the Scarlets may however chose to use part or all of any award to reduce debt and consequently loan repayments and interest charges. I doubt the courts would take kindly to any attempt by the WRU to offset any cash award made against loans with previously agreed repayment schedules.

Apologies if I have got it wrong but I believe we were looking at an arbitration and not a high court case. With arbitrations then there will more often than not be agreed confidentiality provisions so only the parties to the arbitration will actually know the outcome.as opposed to a high court case when the judgement usually will be public. Cracking start tonight.

I was under the impression that the parties had failed to agree a solution by arbitration and the matter has now been heard in court.

It doesn’t work that way, the WRU can’t receive a bill & use money owed to pay it off without agreement from the opposing party We already have agreed payment plans in place & these cannot be changed legally without agreement from both parties or a party fails to meet the terms We could be awarded say £10m, go straight to the WRU & demand the full amount regardless of other agreements
Personally I think we’d use any award as leverage to negotiate a better deal/license terms
In terms of Nige, the way he’s talking makes me believe he’ll be here next season & possibly a year after to complete the rebuild to decent squad level/numbers
You can see it in the players, how they’ve bought in to whatever Pwds is selling, our performances (barring Connacht) are improving & the boys look a lot happier even Dwayne looks happy again Our attack is starting to fire, saw somewhere we are the most clinical team converting 22 entries, young Carwyn has 5 try assists from his 4 starts, the most in the league is 8 in 13 games
The set-piece has returned to expected levels, not 100% sold on AVDB there & would like a dedicated set-piece coach, sorry Emyr that’s you too but he has the academy role
I think Nige/Dwayne will be a package & I’m not 100% against it, DP is a great coach just not a great head coach which is fine A new defence coach, set-piece, possibly forwards if AVDB leaves & S&C (honestly think we’ve gone backwards since Carney’s arrival) It’s a hard sell from the outside but if behind the scenes we can offer 3yr contracts then I think there’s a few coaches out there that will see the quality players we have & love a rebuild

As he’s Welsh qualified, it wouldn't be a one year deal as it would be with the intention of capping him for 🏴 as he’s of interest to the national setup.

As he is a WRU target and Welsh qualified, the WRU will guarantee a two or three year contract, as they have done already for Ospreys.

Cahill is Welsh qualified, a regular starter for Crusaders at just 22 and a long term target for the WRU. Could be a great signing!
