What a comeback from Australia after being 22 points down to South Africa not many teams score 38 points without South Africa scoring again

Well, they weren’t better, that’s why they lost the series. More like, had Andy picked 11-12 Irish players in his XV like he should have, as opposed to picking 6-7 English/Scottish players just to keep the media on side, the Lions likely win 3-0. Only so much carrying you can do before it catches up with you.

Brave predictions as usual Nathan. You still cannot get over the fact that many of your stars are getting past their sell by date. To add insult to injury you are now suggesting an Irish world cup win in 2027. May I remind you that despite your team clearly being the best in the world for some time according to you of course they have never been beyond the last 8. FFS even us Welsh have got to the last 4. As for Australia - they are now showing the form they would probably have displayed with some better prep for the Lions. An Irish loaded Lions will go down as one the worst squads in my memory despite winning the series.

The highlights are on Youtube. What struck me was that all the trys were ran in from distance, No getting to the 5m line and repeatedly pick and drive or seek contact. Instead it was using a pass to beat a man, draw people to the centre to create space on the edges and then one on one skill - either speed or sidestep. Didn't Wales used to play like that ?

Isn’t it fun seeing the Oracle back, albeit very disciplined for the moment in what’s posted?!

Apart for Esterhuizen, that SA back line surely can't play that badly again. Missed tackles..flying up in the line and no control . Libbock had a shocker at 10.
Credit to the Aus back row, and back 3 ..they dominated. McFreight was everywhere, |

And many of Irelands stars will be in their prime come 2027, you think Ireland have an “issue” with their aging stars well…on the basis of yesterday they are clearly in a much better position in this area than SA are. Ireland only have 16 players +30 in their squad…SA have 24. Like I said in a previous post, Ireland’s “old XV” in 2027 will be the same age that SA are right now…that should highlight the scale of the issue facing SA. At this point, looking at the projected squads come 2027 I would have Ireland as the 2nd most likely behind France. SA and NZL are too reliant on older/younger players, won’t have enough players in their prime in 2027 of real quality compared to France & Ireland. Of the rest the most likely are Australia who come 2027 will have a squad full of players in their prime. Of course they will in your eyes, they still won the series! It’s likely the only trophy the home nations will win for the forseable future so enjoy it!

Keep trying Nathan - say it often enough & you may convince yourself. A lot of the above depends on what you call prime age. Aki 37, Lowe 35, Gibson-Park 35, Furlong 35, Bealham 36, Tadgh Beine 35 Van der Flier 34. Its not really the overall number which is the most worrying its the quality of that player & their importance to the Irish team. Despite what you consider to be ready made replacements waiting in the wings I fail to see any that I would consider anywhere near the quality of the above. Time of course will tell but my top 4 contenders for the 2027 World Cup would be South Africa, New Zealand, France & England.

So just going to side step Porter - 31, Sheehan/Kelleher - 29, McCarthy - 26, Ryan - 31, Doris - 29, Ringrose - 32, Keenan - 31 who are all equally important who are all in their prime come 2027? Not to mention the younger players coming through who will likely add to this list along with a-few of the older players still being top class. You kind of show your bias here when you criticise the Irish players age but then completely ignore the SA players who you could make the exact same argument for. Well, that’s because you clearly haven’t watched them enough or are just believing what you want to believe. Based on your posts so far, you’ve a history of cherry picking what information to use. All the evidence on show points to Ireland & France being the two clear front runners in 2027 with SA/NZL yo-yoing for 3rd/4th. And as for England…don’t make me laugh, they aren’t even close. It’ll be Australia being the most likely come 2027 of the rest, it won’t be until 2031 before England are contenders again. Same issues at SA/NZL except even worse, relying on older/younger players and a real lack of quality players in their prime.

Time will tell Nathan. As for South Africa they will be smarting after last Saturday for sure. They have a great nack of peaking at big tournaments & their age grade teams over the past few years are pretty successful. I would expect to see some new blood soon. As for your comment on England - thats the same team who finishing above Ireland in the 6 nations last season is it not? The list of Irish players you quoted does not answer my question - where are the replacements for the 7 players I mentioned. I don't watch many games featuring the Irish teams but I cannot think of anyone who could slot in seamlessly & please don't suggest Casey & Osborne.

Is that the crazest comeback ever?
A written off aussie side...22-0 down after 17 minutes away to the world champs at ellis park at altitude...with an aging fly half making a comeback after 3 years.... But then score 38 unanswered points to hammer the boks with 6 tries? They defended with their lives they looked to counter attack at every opportunity and just never gave up never gave an inch....Yes the boks imploded to a degree gifting a few intercepts and wasting some chances.. but I dont think it was a fluke it was some brilliant rugby.... Boks players and fans absolutely shell shocked.

My Irish friend Nathan has certainly got one thing right - the awesome power of the South African pack is waning fast & the bomb squad have been disbanded. If Pollard had been playing for Australia they would have won. Their forwards matched the Boks toe to toe but when calm, cool decision making was needed Australia went AWOL.
Two simple penalties turned down at 13-7 - unbelievable. Simple missed conversion at 23-22 which would have given them the lead & such a boost going into the final 10. Another simple penalty missed later - all these things add up to the difference of winning or losing. Marnus only given 2-3 minutes was disappointing to say the least. On reflection if Australia had been able to select Tuipou, Skelton & Valentini to start every Lions test they would won the series comfortably which should tell us where that Lions squad feature in the list of recent tourists. For me slightly better than Woodward's lot but well behind all the others since.

Aus 28-24 Arg..
Full credit to Aus, with the clock on red they had 3 kickable pens to draw the game but went for the try, and got it. |
