As we know, it was announced that Samson has signed a new contract (not sure of the length).
With Sebastian leaving, it could leave us thin at TH , if there any flare ups with Samson, regarding fitness.

Bearing in mind his recent injury and history prior to that when he got injured playing for Wales, there is bound to be scepticism regarding the fact on whether he can stay fit, and also the level of performance.
We have  already seen how Wyn Jones, is struggling to recapture his old form, since his serious injury, and in that context Kemsley Mathias, will be NO1 LH at Scarlets next season, deserving of his place in Gatland's extended squad

Finding available quality tight heads available, of course is another matter, and I am sure Dwaine and the coaching team have looked in to all the scenarios, and made their investigations, before coming to any conclusions.

I wish Samson every best wish to reignite his career, and fitness. I will be a very hard Summer of work for him ahead.
I am not anticipating that he can rediscover former glories, but if he can do a job, I will be happy

Samson actually snapped his Achilles 6 years apart. The oft read 'he's never been the same player' is a bit of lazy tag in my mind...

More of a concern is how the expectation on props has changed quite a bit in recent years. When we think about Wyn and Samson we think about the scrum being 'anchored', we don't necessarily think about them as ball carriers or 12+ tackles a match guys that much.

But that's where the modern TH (and LH) props are these days (less about set piece domination, and more on impact on the other facets of play).

Indeed Wil. Mobility is now Gatland's mantra. When I watch some of the French top 14 teams their front row forwards are all over the ball come breakdown time. Physically of course that makes a lot of sense as they usually are 120kgs + guys with very low centres of gravity so possess the solidity to withstand the punishment. However here is the rub - can they get to those breakdowns quick enough & often enough to make it count.

Both Wyn & Samson will hopefully have good pre-seasons learning new skills. They both have loads left in the tank & won't go away easily.

For sure, competent exponents, just need to add a few strings to the bow - a la Porter, Furlong etc.

Heard his contract is 12 months, given his injury’s of late that seems fair.

Here’s to wishing him a successful season and a injury free run.

Having both him and Wyn available during the World Cup is a real bonus. It’s now a huge season for Samson to reestablish himself in the team

I’d imagine another reason is he’s probably not digging too much into their budget.

URC is due to start on the same weekend as the RWC semi finals.

Post World Cup mandatory rest periods and then the Autumn Internationals perhaps

Yep.
Wales players would be missing until the December games/Xmas derbies sort of time.

I would be surprised if Wales or Tonga are involved in the latter stages of the World Cup. Also as far as I am aware there are no Autumn Internationals next season. And as the WRU are no longer contributing towards the salaries of Welsh Squad players, I struggle to see how they can enforce a “mandatory” rest period.
So other than injuries and player welfare for any Scarlets players who have had a particularly high work load in the World Cup, shouldn't all Scarlets squad players be available for the start of the URC?
