Scotland comes into focus over the next two weeks with the Scottish Open starting Thursday at the Renaissance Club with The Open starting next week at Royal Troon. Rory will be trying to defend his Scottish Open title where he pipped Robert McIntyre in a hooley last season. I remember well him hitting a 2 iron from 170 yards ( normally for him a 9 iron) into the 17th I think to within 10 feet for the winning birdie.

I hope he's managed to get his head out of the shed following his meltdown at the US Open a few weeks ago.

Congratulations to Bob McIntyre on winning the Scottish Open having been pipped last year by Rory. As a Scotsman this was the title he really wanted. Now up to 16th in the World. He had some luck on 16th par 5 when he found the rough with his drive and a bad lie only to be given a free drop because of a sprinkler head. He dropped still in the rough & proceeded to hit a 3 iron 250 yards to 10 foot to make eagle. He also birdied the 18th to win by a shot.

Tommy's been playing well recently - just needs to get some putts to drop to seriously contend. Lets keep our fingers crossed for some serious wind over the weekend which will sort them out. Think McIntyre may go well. Brought up on links golf & fresh from winning last week.

What a boost to my ego it has been to see the World's best reduced to hackers in a little breeze. Perhaps my 90 around Garnant Park in a real hooly wasn't that bad after all. Wink

Congrats to Xander Schauffle on winning his 2nd major of the year. Well done also to Justin Rose who came joint 2nd after going through qualifying. In the days of ever lengthening courses what a pleasure to see a historic "old design" course testing & beating most of the best players in the World.

Also congrats to the previously relative unknown Brown (?) who won nearly 250K. His 19 year old brother caddied for him and is looking forward to his standard 10% fee, too.

Link golf is a great leveller, goes to show you can't just whack it hundreds of yards, you actually have to think about each shot.
